I didn’t smile back. I sidestepped him, but he followed, blocking my path.
“Move,” I said coldly.
He wasn’t deterred. His smile widened. “Why, hello there, sweetheart. What a sweet thing like you doing here?”
“I’m not alone. I’m here with my boyfriend. Now, please get out of my way.”
He laughed. “You hear that, Randy? She’s here with her boyfriend.”
I hadn’t noticed the second man until he laughed. I didn’t bother looking at him. As far as I could tell, he was keeping his distance, casually leaning his back against the wall.
“You don’t have to be shy, sweetheart. Why don’t you hang out with us a bit? I can show you a good time. The name’s Dennis, by the way.”
“No, thank you,” I muttered, moving back a step to get away from his B.O. How annoying.
I wasn’t scared of Dennis.
We were in a crowded bar. There were a few bouncer men standing around, or at least, I had spotted a few on my way to the bathroom, so I doubt Dennis would do any more than bug me, but the fact that he was blocking me and not taking no for an answer was getting on my nerves.
He slapped his thigh and laughed, and I glared at him.
“Do you hear this, Randy? She’s so polite.”
He bent so we were eye to eye, and for the first time, I noticed the glassy quality to them. He was drunk. Or high.
Or both, I didn’t know.
“I never fucked a cripple before,” he said. And his smile at the end of the statement told me he was proud of saying it.
“What the fuck? Leave me alone.”
I turned around. I didn’t care where I went, as long as I wasn’t spending another minute in his presence, but the man grabbed me and yanked me back.
I let out a surprised squeal. He didn’t exactly hurt me, but that didn’t mean I wanted to be grabbed like that.
I opened my mouth to tell him that. It only took me a second to realize he had let go of me as quickly as he’d pulled me back.
When I turned around, it took another second for my brain to understand what I was seeing.
Jensen had the man in a headlock, a look of pure, unadulterated rage in his eyes.
He looked up at me, and our gaze held for a fraction of a second before he turned back to the man, shaking him a bit.
“Did she tell you to leave her alone?” he asked, his voice calm. I knew he was anything but. The source of my annoyance knew it, too.
He struggled in Jensen’s hold, but it was useless. Jensen’s grip on him remained steady.
I looked past them briefly to see Randy making a beeline for the door.
What a good friend that man was.
Jensen shook Dennis once more. “Answer me.”
“I-I didn’t mean any harm, man. It was just a joke. I didn’t know she has a boyfriend already.”
At that, I scowled. I told him I did, but even if I didn’t, that didn’t mean I was up to getting harassed.
Jensen tightened his grip on Dennis when he saw the look on my face.
