“Well, I didn’t work there for long.”
“But it was long enough for you to learn about their super-secret passage that heads directly to their hostage chamber?”
“I’m afraid not.”
“#Lame. Do you at least know where they would keep a hostage?”
He shrugged. “Probably on the top five floors.”
“Perfect.” I ran over to my purse, grabbed my phone, and scrolled through their rooms. But they were all listed as sold out. So I had no choice but to be a weirdo and call them.
“Locatelli Resort and Spa,” answered the receptionist. Who was unfortunately female, so she’d be slightly more difficult to seduce.
“Hey,” I said. “I’m hoping to book the penthouse for this evening.”
“I’m afraid we’re all booked up this weekend. Our next availability is the weekend of July 12th.”
“As in…like 10 months from now?”
“Yes, ma’am. Shall I put you down for an economy double?”
Excuse me?What kind of basic bitch did she think I was? I didn’t stay in peasant rooms. Penthouse or nothing for me, bitch.
She must be joking. So I played along. “Oh sure. But only if it’s on the street side of the hotel. I don’t want to have to look at the stupid ocean.”
“Of course, ma’am.”
“What? No. I was joking. Now please move some things around so I can get in the penthouse this evening. I’ll pay double the normal rate.”
“I’m sorry, but that’s not possible. Like I said, we have no vacancies until July.”
Damn it!Usually I would have mentioned my name and then immediately gotten what I wanted. But the banana king probably had me on a black list so that I couldn’t come save Ash. “Okay, I’ll tell you what. Usually I wouldn’t take anything beneath the penthouse, but just this once I’ll make an exception and take anything you’ve got on the top 5 floors.”
Click.
I stared at my phone. “That bitch just hung up on me!”
“Yeah,” said Simon. “She probably got suspicious. The top 5 floors are Magnus’ private chambers. Employees only. And hostages, I suppose.”
“Magnus?”
“Magnus King. Luigi Locatelli’s right-hand-man.”
“Oooh. The banana king!”
Simon raised an eyebrow. “Huh?”
I waved him off. “Long story. So what can you tell me about these top 5 floors?”
“Well…rumor has it that there’s a roof deck up there with a pretty sweet view.”
“Oh yeah?” I grabbed my binoculars and tried to get a look at it, but it was on the ocean-facing side of the resort. And I could only see the street side. I turned back to Ghostie. “Did you bring your drone?”
“Mhm,” he grunted.
“Good. Let’s get that thing in the air and see if we can get eyes on Ash.”
Ghostie grabbed a metal suitcase from the closet while I put my bikini back on and then we headed up to the roof. Teddybear was still in the bathroom taking care of that boner I’d given him earlier, but he said he’d join us soon.
