“Why are you here?” he presses.
“Same reason everyone else is here. I want to find an omega for my pack.”
“Are you sure?” Seth asks. “Are you sure you don’t have some other motivation?”
I sit back in my chair, crossing my arms across my chest. “Like what?” I ask.
Seth shrugs. “I don’t know. But it seems to me like there’s something more going on with you.” He smiles at me, his eyes shining with a strange, glistening interest. “Don’t worry. I’m sure we’ll figure it out together.”
Chapter Fourteen - Conrad
When I finally finishwith that damned producer, the sun is setting. Seth ushers me back to my room and instructs me to change for dinner. Apparently there’s going to be some kind of grand welcoming banquet that I can’t believe I have to attend.
Feeling stiff and uncomfortable for reasons that have nothing to do with my attire, I step down the stairs, dressed in one of my best suits. There is already a collection of alphas and omegas clustered at the base of the stairs, waiting for Willard to announce whatever annoying thing he’s going to announce.
“Looking good, Conrad,” a female voice purrs at my side. I look down to see Cindy standing nearby, dressed in a strapless red dress that leaves nothing to the imagination. She’d be a fun fuck, I can tell. She’s selfish, but also a little nuts, and that’s usually a good indicator of someone who is wild in bed. Plus she’s not smart enough to hide her character flaws, which I find comforting.
I wish I could feel some kind of attraction toward her.
“Looking good yourself, Cindy. How are you doing?”
Cindy’s face twists into a little pout that I’m sure she thinks is endearing. “I’d be better if we were sitting together.”
“Are we not?” I ask, not really interested in her answer. I’m watching the staircase for Henry and Ransom, only half-listening to her.
“No. Your pack is seated with Carissa Castle, of course. Spoiled bitch. Did you know she has her own suite while the rest of us have to share? It’s ridiculous.” Cindy sniffs and crosses her arms under her breasts, pushing them out for my review.
“You mentioned that on the boat,” I say blandly. “I agree, it’s ridiculous.” The truth is, it’s probably a good opportunity for me. I’m guessing Seth thought this would be a good way to create some drama tonight, and he’s right; it will be. I just have to find a way to use this to my advantage.
Cindy steps closer, reaching for my tie and straightening it, which it definitely doesn’t need. “You know,” she purrs. “There’s no rose ceremony tonight, but there will probably be one tomorrow. Have you considered what you might do?”
I raise my eyebrows. “Are people actually thinking they might do anything other than pink on the first ceremony?” Once an omega and a pack reach red-rose status, they’re done on the show, and swept off on their show-sponsored honeymoon, while the rest of the cast stays behind to continue hunting for their perfect pack.
But red roses are final decisions — most packs and omegas want at least a little time to decide what they want to do before they pick each other. And both the omega and the pack have to decide on a red rose for it to take effect.
Cindy snorts. “I doubt anyone else will red-rose someone at the very first ceremony.” She looks up at me through her eyelashes, pushing out her bottom lip. “But that’s why it would be so fun. We’d surprise everyone. And we would get to move on to the fun part. Heats and nests and making babies.” She looks down at her hands for a moment in feigned shyness. “I’ll consider it if you will.”
