Chapter Seven - Ransom
“Did you smell her?”Henry asks eagerly as we walk into our quarters upstairs. We’ve been here one night already; the alpha packs were allowed to come early and get settled before the omegas joined us. “Seriously, Ransom,” Henry says, practically bouncing up and down, “did you smell her?”
“Yes,” I reply, probably more curtly than I intend. I can’t stop thinking about that scent, actually. She’s already under my skin, and I don’t even know what she looks like yet.
Henry sighs raggedly. “I could have scented her all night, I swear. I haven’t spent a lot of time thinking about what it would be like before now, but... we have to win her, ok? We have to go after her the first chance we get. She has to be ours.”
“Easy, Henry. Remember, we haven’t even smelled the others yet. Or met them, which might be relevant at some point.”
Henry shakes his head. “She’s the one I want.”
“How can you even be sure she’s female?” I tease.
“Well it wouldn’t matter either way, to me,” Henry retorts, “but I heard her little sigh.” He closes his eyes and shudders. “She’s the one, Rans. We have to get her. She has to be ours.”
“Don’t forget, we have a slight complication there.”
“Oh, Conrad? He’ll come around. He couldn’t have helped loving that scent. He must be as enamored as we are. You’ll see. He’ll put that shit about Carissa aside and help us with this.”
Just then, Conrad steps out of the bathroom. A rush of steam blooms around him as he ties a towel around his toned waist. He’s lucky the packs have more privacy than the omegas; there’s only one camera in our suite, and it’s positioned to look into the living room, leaving the kitchen and bathrooms relatively obscured.
Though I have to admit, Conrad’s body would only win him fans. Ab muscles ripple down over his waist, his chest dusted with dark brown hair that trails down below his navel. He’s not as built as Henry, but those muscles are breathtaking.
I can pick out a good looking man, but personally speaking, men aren’t my preference. I’m more inclined toward females. As it turns out, one female in particular. Someone who smells like honey and ginger, and will definitely be featured in my dreams tonight.
Henry rushes over to Conrad’s side like an overgrown puppy. “Conrad, let’s talk. We need a strategy. A plan. A way to win her—”
“Win whom?” Conrad growls.
Henry blinks at him as if he has no idea what he’s saying. “Obviously I’m talking about our omega. The one in the booth. The one we—”
“That was Carissa,” Conrad snaps.
Henry’s expression falls so fast that it actually hurts my heart. “What?” he whispers. “There’s no way. It can’t be—”
“It is. Honeycomb and ginger? It was her. It’s her. I’d know that scent anywhere. She’s the one we’re here to destroy.”
Henry shakes his head. “I... but...” He glances over at me, his eyes baleful, pleading for my help.
“Henry, why don’t you go check out the gym?” I ask.
Henry hesitates for a moment and then mutters to himself as he grabs a towel and heads out the front door of the suite. As soon as the door clicks closed, I round on Conrad. “He’s not going to give up on this,” I tell him.
“He will,” Conrad snaps. “She’s the first one he’s scented, for God’s sake. Tonight he’ll meet a bunch of others, and he’ll be distracted.”
And what about me?I want to ask. What about what I’m feeling?Because maybe Henry will get distracted; he loves sex, and he’s good at finding people to share his bed. Me, I don’t fuck around much. It’s true, my interactions with omegas have been... limited. They’re a closely guarded group, usually only seen at thousand-dollar-a-plate events and Omega Balls. But it’s hard for me to imagine that I could want someone more than I want her.
Conrad sighs as he ditches the towel and starts to get dressed. “Look, Ransom, I get it. I should have told you about this.”
“It’s not just that, Conrad. This isn’t healthy. There’s nothing good that can come out of this revenge shit, and you know it.”
“Something good can come out of it,” Conrad growls as he pulls on his shirt. “I can teach these people a lesson. Teach them that they can’t get away with destroying people without any consequences. That’s worth it. That’s important.”
