“I wasn’t planning on it, but...”
Carissa clutches at me, shaking her head.
“I’m not sure you’re going to have a choice,” Beatrice says with a laugh.
There’s a banging noise from the front of the suite, and then Henry appears, looking white as a sheet. “What’s happening?” he yells. “Randy said...” He sees Carissa in my arms and blows out a breath. “She’s ok?”
“Heat,” Carissa whimpers.
Henry looks back and forth between me and Carissa. “Oh,” he says softly. “I see.”
“She’s going to need you both,” Beatrice says. “Though I’m not sure if you’ll fit in the tub with her.”
“We’ll have to find a way to fit,” I say. “Or we’ll need an alternative.”
Beatrice pops her gum and tilts her head to the side. “I’ll need ten minutes and both of your shirts.”
“To do what?” Henry asks.
“You’re not the smart one, I take it,” Beatrice counters. “Shirt please.”
Henry pulls off his shirt and hands it to Beatrice, whose eyes drift down over his muscles appreciatively.
“Need yours too,” she says to me.
I try to put Carissa down, but she clings to me with a whimper. It hurts my heart, but I have to hand her to Henry to take off my shirt. As soon as her skin touches his, she lets out a low moan, and buries her nose in his neck. Henry stiffens, looking at me with a grim expression. “Shit,” he says. “That’s... that’s a lot.”
“Ruts usually are,” Beatrice says, taking my shirt. “Keep her comfortable as you can for ten minutes. I promise, I’ll get you what you need.”
And then she disappears from the doorway. I can hear her calling the other omegas by name, her voice sharp and commanding as she moves out of the suite and down the hall.
Chapter Twenty-nine - Henry
I’ve never experienceda rut before. Not a real one. But that must be what this feeling is; this incredible tension, mixed with intense focus. I am entranced by the woman in my arms; she’s the only thing that exists for me right now. I can hear other people talking, other things happening around us, but I’m only vaguely aware of what they might mean. Everything is Carissa.
While we wait for Beatrice, I hold Carissa tight in my arms, telling her how much she means to me. How much she means to all of us. I tell her that I’m never letting her go.
