Hadley
Apoundingonthe door jerks me from sleep, and a groan has me turning over to find Kai blinking back at me.
“Good morning, angel.” He leans over to kiss me, but pulls away when the door to my room flies open.
“Now, now, kids, none of that.”
Caiden and Marcos grin down at us from the end of the bed. I sigh as my head falls back onto my pillow. “What do you want?”
“Happy birthday, Hadley,” Caiden sing-songs and my stomach jumps in my throat as I remember that today is, in fact, my birthday. And therefore, the day that I will be presented to the Fae as their future queen and when my powers will reveal themselves.
Fuck.
“Thanks, Cade.” I try to smile, but I’m so nervous now that I can barely swallow around my suddenly dry throat.
“The two of you might want to get dressed unless you want Adaline and Grace to see you like this,” Marcos says with a laugh, eyes roaming over my body that is barely covered by the sheet before nodding toward the door. “They’re both out there with your breakfast. They said we’re allowed to eat with you and then we’re to scram until tonight.”
Clothes, right. Those would be good.
I sit up, clutching the sheet to my breasts as I look around to try and figure out where we’d tossed them last night. Kai and I had been a little distracted when we’d been heading to bed, too intent on getting naked so I could feel him inside of me to worry about where our clothes ended up.
“Looking for these?” Caiden is holding up my clothes with a grin.
“Yes, can I have those?”
Caiden considers it for a moment. “Maybe. What are you going to give me for them?”
I roll my eyes as if annoyed with him, but it’s kind of cute. I just won’t let him know that. “Hmmm… how about I won’t punch you in the nuts if you give them to me?”
“Ouch, babe.” Caiden winces, bending slightly at the waist as he tosses them to me. “That’s just cruel.”
“Yeah, but I got my clothes, didn’t I?”
Kai is already climbing out of the bed, pulling on his clothes and drawing Caiden’s attention to him. I toss the sheet to the side and climb out of the bed, not caring if they see me naked. After all, all three of them have already seen me naked and more than once.
“Damn, kitten, I think I’d rather have you for breakfast.”
I glance at Marcos over my shoulder and shoot him a wink, watching as his eyes run up and down my body.
“If you have her for breakfast,” Caiden says with a chuckle as he moves to press Kai against the wall, “then I’m having Kai for breakfast.”
Heat rushes through me, and I have to force myself to take a deep breath. “As much fun as that sounds, I don’t think Grace would approve.”
“I most certainly would not.”
I squeak in surprise when I see Grace in the doorway, quickly throwing on my clothes. Grace laughs as she turns her attention to Caiden and Marcos.
“I thought I told you boys no funny business. I knew that I should have woken her up myself.”
“Hey, now.” Caiden steps away from Kai, holding up his hands. He doesn’t seem overly concerned about Grace seeing him pressed against Kai. “We kept our hands to ourselves and our clothes on.”
Grace purses her lips as she turns back to me, humming as if she doesn’t believe him. Her gaze softens when it lands on me. “Happy birthday, Hadley.”
“Thanks, Grace.” I ignore the blush on my cheeks, even though she didn’t catch us doing anything. “I hear we’re having breakfast in my suite?”
“We are, and then you’ll spend the day being spoiled.”
Grace gestures for me to join her, pulling me in for a hug as soon as I get close. I smile as I wrap my arms around her, realizing that she’s the closest thing I have to a mother now.
