The genes were being passed on to all my female children, which was why Jasmine and I had decided the three of them were probably enough. We didn’t know if we could handle a third little wolf cub in the house, though they wouldn’t actually shift until they reached puberty.
Heaven help us all when that happened.
“Buddy, you need to get to bed so you can be rested up. Would you like to go to the park tomorrow?”
His brows rose comically at my question. “Yes!” he said in an excited whisper.
“Me too?” Ehria whispered, keeping with the mood.
“You too, but only if you both get your little butts to bed,” I said sternly, trying not to smile. They both rushed out of the room with excited whispers between them. I heard their doors close.
Jasmine gently lifted a now sleeping Adira and set her back in her crib. She kissed her fingertips and pressed them to her dark, downy head.
“You ready to go back to bed, husband?” she asked with a waggle of her brows.
I held out a hand that she clasped in hers as I stood and reeled her in. “Why yes, wife. I am.”
We tiptoed back down the hall, and she welcomed me home again.
The End.
