“Goddamn, it’s dark in here,” Sanchez stated as he walked inside.
“It happens to be the middle of the night.”
“I did try and call.”
“I’ve been busy.”
“I guess you have,” he teased as he walked closer. “I found the point of entrance.”
“Where?”
“The far side of the island. They used scuba gear but coming from where I’m not certain. We’re continuing to check the waters. Sergei had thirty men searching the rest of the island. There’s no other sign of other breach.”
I slammed my fist onto the desk. “I assume there was no identification of any kind.”
He lifted his eyebrows as he stared at me. “They weren’t stupid except in trying to get on this island. I don’t like it though. Maybe the fuckers are using submarines now.”
At this point, I’d believe anything. “I may take a trip to in the morning.”
“Kostya?”
“That and something else. As long as it’s close.” I had no intention of remaining away from her for long. I also couldn’t risk the shipment coming in and there being another issue.
“I’ll ready the pilot just in case.”
“Perfect. Keep me advised if you hear anything.”
“You got it, boss. Oh, everyone at the restaurant checks out. I don’t think your breach was there.”
“We’ll keep ruling them out.”
After he left, I shifted to the internet, accessing the secured account created for international communications. After attempting a connection to Kostya, I leaned back in my seat, dragging my tongue back and forth across the rim of my glass, still able to envision licking her sweet pussy.
While the connection was automatic, it took almost a full minute before Kostya responded. As his face appeared on the screen, I laughed seeing the annoyance on it.
“Did I wake you, my friend?” I asked, taking a sip of my drink.
“Do you fucking ever sleep?” Kostya was naked, thumping into a chair then hissing as he slid his hands through the stubble covering his head. His accent was thick, his voice gruff.
“Sleep is a privilege denied to men like us.” I wasn’t telling him anything he didn’t already know.
“Speak for yourself.”
“Is there any activity with the Rojas Cartel?”
His grin was a reminder of his evil glint, his brutality notorious. Few knew about his existence, only members of my family able to find him when needed. He was our assassin, a man who could handle any situation, no matter how dangerous. He also had no conscience, which made him the perfect man for the job. “There’s always movement, rumors changing every day. As far as the Rojas Cartel, I’ve heard rumblings that they are planning on making an appearance in the US. The location has yet to be divulged, but New York is a prime target. As far as the upcoming deal, I see no reason to be concerned but I assure you precautions are being taken.”
If the Colombian Cartel hadn’t laid a claim to the assassination attempt, then I’d been right about suspecting another force was at play. However, if they’d wanted nothing more than to rattle our cages, they’d done a damn good job. “Tell me what you know about Manuel Diez.”
There was no surprise on his face, although he wasn’t the kind of man to express emotions. “He’s a pig, but other than that, I’m uncertain what you’re asking.”
“The island was compromised last night. Diez is offering four million dollars for arms. I need to know if he’s connected.”
Kostya rubbed his jaw, looking away briefly. “He’s a cruel man. People in his employ disappear. However, he remains under the radar. What do you need to know?”
“If he has any connection to the Vincheti family.”
Huffing, his eyes lit up as he leaned closer to the screen. “I heard you were getting married. I also heard about the destruction of the restaurant.”
