Another grunt.
Other than his hand on her hips and the growing ache between them at her core, Spencer still hadn’t made a move since sitting on his lap. Another wave of doubts crept through her mind as she set the empty dish on the table at her back. She was out of time and didn’t know what else to do to convince him she wantedthis—whatever this was—with him. Today was by far the most she’d ever done to get a guy’s attention. Usually, they made the first move. Yes, she usually teased or flirted, but never beyond that. Yet, with Spencer, she’d become braver and bolder. Each time she’d watched him walk out of the office, the walls around her heart had shaken, and even as he didn’t return her enthusiasm, Kate still wanted him.
No. She squeezed her eyes shut. If the ache coursing through her limbs were anything to go by, she needed him. Needed Spencer in a way she’d never needed anyone.
“It’s late, I’ll call a ride.” Her eyes stung. It was better to leave before she made a bigger fool of herself, right?Maybe she’d made him uncomfortable by invading his space. Dios mio, if there was any chance of salvaging her chance at a relationship with him it was better to leave.
“You want to leave?”
She sucked in a steadying breath. “Don’t you want me to?”
He remained silent for an agonizing moment, and Kate’s heart rattled against the walls of his chest. She had made all the moves until now. The longer he stayed quiet, the bigger the anxious flutter in her stomach became. She’d shot her shot and blew it. She’d come on too strong. If he kicked her out, it would be no one’s fault but her own.
“No.” His gaze homed in on the quiver of her lower lip. “I don’t want you to go.”
Kate swallowed. Her thighs involuntarily clenched around his broad legs. She needed him something fierce, had needed him for so long it hurt. “You know if I stay, there will be touching involved, right? Like, lots of touching. And cuddling. I like cuddling.”
He trembled and she felt it vibrate against her swollen clit.
“Dial back the cuddling and I’ll share my bed,” he offered, voice sounding amused.
Dial back…Kate shook her head. There was no way she’d sent mixed signals. All afternoon she’d done nothing but flirt with Spencer. Or was he giving her a way out?
There was no mistaking the scorch of their kiss before dinner, or his hard length under her palm in the bedroom earlier. No, the last thing she needed was to dial back anything between them.
Kate arched her back, aware the move ground her hot core against the hardening bulge in his pants. She tapped the corner of her mouth playfully. “I’ll let you do all the touching and as much cuddling as you are comfortable with if—”
“You wouldn’t touch me at all?” A dark brow arched above eyes the color of dark cognac and Kate wished she knew his thoughts.
“I’ll try not to.” She swallowed back a groan when he lengthened beneath her. “But it’ll be hard considering I’ve wanted my hands on you since the first time I saw you.” Kate licked her lips. A naughty thrill tingled the puckered tips of her breasts. “But I wouldn’t if we went to third base.”
“That’s blackmail.” His eyes grew a little darker, reminding Kate of warm brandy on a cold winter night.
She smirked. “Or we can cuddle and I get to touch you all night long.”
Kate gasped when Spencer grabbed a fist full of her hair, tilting her head back until their mouths practically touched. “It’s a common misconception to think I don’t like to be touched.”
Her heart thundered.No. she’d seen him stand apart from others.Had she misread him?
“What I don’t like is being touched by strangers.” He drew her closer until her breasts pressed against the solid wall of his chest. “The act of being touched, having someone’s hands on me is intimate. When I hold someone, it’s because I’m emotionally invested.” His fingers tightened, and she purred under her breath when he dragged her an inch closer. “There’ll be no mistaking how I feel.” His free hand gripped the spot on her hips where the pencil skirt had ridden up.
“I’m not a stranger?”
He kissed her. Hard. Hungry. And wet. The kiss was possessive in a way she hadn’t anticipated and she leaned into the embrace. The hand gripping her hair, holding her for his taking, set her skin on fire.
She loved this undiscovered take-charge side of Spencer that made her gasp for air and turned her pussy into a wet river of need. If he turned her away now, there was no way she’d make it home without getting herself off and even then it wouldn’t be enough.
“Not anymore,” he said in her ear. “It’s not too late to stop this.”
“I want you. I’ve always wanted you.”
CHAPTERSEVEN
Spencer
“You should know, Kate, if you stay, you’ll be mine.” He jerked her hips a little closer to his, so there’d be no mistaking what he meant.
“Yes!” she breathed.
