“Come on, let’s get this done.”
“We’re not leaving her,” Hailey declares.
“Yeah, this police station is totally cool. It’s just like a movie set. I’m not going anywhere.”
Aiden shakes his head before leading us deeper into the station.
Suzie vibrates in excitement. “This is a movie set,” she whispers. “Do you think they’d mind if I take some pictures?”
Ryker grunts from behind me. Apparently, I have an entourage to give my statement. Take that, Theodore. You thought you cut me off from all my friends and family, but you didn’t. No, this family – the one I created – will not desert me.
Aiden opens a door to what looks like an interrogation room. Before I can walk in, Ryker grabs my shoulder and stops me. He twirls me around. “You sure you’re ready for this? Aiden can wait a day or two for you to give your statement.”
I am so ready to get rid of my asshat husband it isn’t funny. I roll up on my tiptoes and touch my lips to Ryker’s. “Yeah, babe, I’m ready.”
He searches my eyes. Apparently, he finds what he’s looking for as he nods. Aiden slaps his back.
“Phoebe’s got this. She’s strong.”
My heart warms at Aiden’s words. No one’s ever called me strong before. I totally do got this.
“Let’s do this!” I announce and march into the room.
