Suzie bounces out of the dressing room. She’s wearing a pink dress with ruffles everywhere. Seriously, they are everywhere – at the cuffs, the neckline, and around her waist. Those ruffles are every-darn-where. She twirls around. “What do you think?”
“I think you look like a stick of cotton candy.” And cotton candy looks as unappetizing as it is sticky.
“I know. Isn’t it awesome?”
She stops twirling around when she notices Hailey. “Holy moly. It’s perfect.” She runs forward and trips over the long hemline of her dress. She falls to the floor and rolls to her back. “I’m fine.”
“We know!” Hailey and I shout in unison.
Suzie struggles to her feet. The champagne is affecting her more than she let on. She tucks the hem of the dress into the back of her underwear and walks around Hailey to study her dress.
“Holy cow! Aiden is going to kidnap you when he sees the dress is backless.”
“Is it too much?”
“Are you crazy? It’s perfect. Now, go buy it. We need to get out of here before we get kicked out.”
I tilt my head toward Suzie who’s now dancing around the place singing Girls Just Want To Have Fun. Of course, she has to touch every single dress she passes. The clerk is rushing around after her with her arms out as if she’s expecting Suzie to fall at any minute now. And a fall is inevitable when we’re talking about Suzie.
“And maybe we can go out the back way to get away from you know who.”
“Not happening.” Hailey dismisses my suggestion and holds out her hand to Suzie who rushes to her. “Come on, crazy girl, time to get dressed.”
I grin as I watch them. Who knew escaping my life would lead me to having two close friends, one of whom is actually sane? Now if I could only get rid of one very annoying bounty hunter all would be right in my world.
