Slowly, my punches weakened. I dropped my arms to my sides, exhausted, letting out a deep sigh.

“Feel better,limone?” he asked, cupping my face between his hands. They were warm and just a little rough. He tipped my face up to meet his gaze.

“Why didn’t you stop me?” I asked, staring at the proof he was unharmed. Other than the day’s stubble along his jaw, he looked no different than any other day.

“Because it looked like you needed to do that. Now, what’s wrong?”

“I didn’t know where you were, what was going on, or if anything happened to you?”

“I’m sorry,” he said, swiping at one of my tears with his thumb. “I didn’t think my absence would worry you.”

It shouldn’t have, but it did, so much more than I wanted to admit.

“Ihatethat I was so worried,” I confessed. “I just want to hate you.”

Maybe it was the relief coursing through my veins that made the words slip out so easily.

He backed me toward the bed until the backs of my knees bumped the mattress. I sat mechanically, and he knelt down in front of me.

“Why do you want to hate me,limone?” He put his hands on my knees and looked up at me. He wore no mask, and there was no storm brewing in his eyes.

“You work with the man who killed my mother,” I said as his fingers drew lazy circles up my thighs.

His brows arched before they turned into a frown. “Who?”

“Harry Belemonte is the man who killed my mother. And you work with him. How can you work with a monster?” Anger boiled up again. I wanted to hit him. I wanted to hurt him as much as he’d hurt me, but then he took my hand in his and pressed his lips to the flesh of my palm.

“I can’t stand the guy, Fallon,” he said against my skin. “If there were any other way, I’d shoot him rather than look at him. But with the Novas on the attack, I had no choice.”

“You’re so loyal… to your family.” I looked away, to the moon that shone outside.

Even though I understood it, it felt like another blow. Another chance for Dominic to put his loyalty to his family above me.

He nodded. “Yes, to my family, but also to you, Fallon. You are my family, don’t you understand? I’ll do whatever I have to do to keep you safe. I realized that today.” He kissed my palm again, then again, forging a path to my wedding ring and then along my finger. A tingling sensation traveled up my arm.

“You did?”

He nodded, kissing back down my finger, across my palm to my wrist. The tingling transformed into tiny jolts that shot through my body and started a fire burning low in my abdomen.

“So, am I forgiven, Fallon?” Dominic continued his path up the underside of my forearm. “Because I’ve worked up quite the appetite.”

“Appetite? For what?” I arched a brow at him.

“You,” he said at the same time he tugged on my hips until my ass hung off the bed.

The force made me fall back, bouncing the back of my head against the mattress.

“What are you doing?” I asked. I sounded breathless to my own ears.

He didn’t answer, but instead he grabbed the sides of my shorts along with my panties and yanked them off so fast they probably left a rug burn. He pushed my thighs wide open and buried his face between my legs. His tongue lapped at my slick folds like I had the fountain of youth between my legs. When he dragged his flattened tongue up to my clit, he let out a deep, guttural groan. He wasenjoyingthis almost as much as I was.
