"We can scan Danec and see when his balls will drop," Slek said with a laugh.

Danec took a step toward him, outrage on his face. He must have realised Slek was teasing, because he stopped and said, "We can see if Slek has a brain."

Slek looked surprised, then burst out laughing. "Good one. You wouldn't be the first to wonder."

"Because you think with your cock most of the time?" I asked.

"Exactly," he said, with no hint of annoyance.

Zarex shook his head. "I expect to see you all ready to board in two hours." He gave me another look, then nodded to the guys before he walked away.

"Looks like Danec and I have some competition," Slek remarked.

"I beg your pardon?" I frowned at him.

"He's obviously interested," Slek said. "You saw it too, didn't you Danec?"

Danec hesitated before saying, "Now you mention it, yes, I did."

My mouth formed an O. "But I'm so… You two are…"

"We're big boys," Slek said. "A little competition never hurt anyone. I already know you're going to choose me." He puffed out his chest. "If you want to spend time with Zarex before then, I'm okay with it."

"So am I," Danec said softly. "But she'll choose me."

Slek clapped him on the shoulder. "As long as Edie is happy."

"Right," Danec agreed. "We really should be ready to board."

"Yes. Yes, we should." I shook my head to clear it. What the hells? The guys just gave me their blessing to see a third guy if I wanted to. Did I want to? Truthfully, I wasn't sure I could trust Zarex, but I did want to. Then there was the small matter of my physical attraction to J'avet. Yeah, okay, that made no sense to me either, but sexual attraction rarely does.

"At least it won't take long to pack," I said. I had managed to retrieve most of my belongings from the cabin I shared with Brinley onInfinity. The clothes I wore when we evacuated were destroyed, just in case a nanobot hitched a ride. Shame, that was my favourite skirt.

"I packed last night," Danec said.

"Um, pack?" Slek said.

I turned my face and looked at him sideways. "Unless, you're only going in what you're wearing?"

He glanced down at himself. As usual, when he wasn't dressed for work, he wore black from head to toe. "I look good like this," he said. "But I'll need my work clothes, I suppose."

"Is this where I offer to help you pack?" I asked.

He raised his head and smiled brightly. "Would you? That would begreat."

Evidently he'd picked up the word from Danec, who snorted. "I'll help too, to make sure we're not late. The ship won't wait for us."

"It might," Slek said. "I mean, it's us." He gestured, hands straight, toward himself, then to Danec and me.

"If J'avet has any say, they wouldn't waitbecauseit's us," I said dryly. "Come on." I took a step, then stopped and pointed at Slek. "We're just packing, though, nothing else."

He held up his hands in surrender, then frowned and jerked his head at Danec. "Why aren't you telling him that?"

"He can think with the head on his shoulders," I said tartly.

"Ah." Slek nodded. "Fair point. Lead on then."

I bit back a smile and slipped my hand into Danec's.
