Sal shook his head. “It was probably needed. My loyalty sometimes gets the best of me.”

“Yes, it does!” Gemma agreed.

“But I’ll sort it out tomorrow. I didn’t give a shit when Lucky was fighting for his life. So when Robby told me Mick’s taking over I was pleased. Now I could be there for my family and not have to worry about that other side.”

“What has Uncle Mick found out so far?”

“Tommy says they got nothing so far. They haven’t even been able to find Joventanno.”

Gemma looked curiously at Sal. “Who’s Joventanno?”

“Guy that Uncle Mick believes was behind my syndicate craziness, like those kidnappings of the mistresses of the bosses in my unity coalition. They call him Jovie. Somebody Uncle Mick had the nerve to say he respects. But according to Robby, Mick thinks he could be behind what happened at the ballpark too.”

“Why would this Jovie person be causing problems with your syndicate?”

“Mick thinks he wants in on U.S. territory. His ass operates out of Croatia if you can believe it. But we’ll see.”

Gemma nodded. And laid back against Sal.

After a long pause of nothingness, Sal needed to make something else clear to Gemma. “I’m not needy, Gemma,” he said to her. “It’s just that I need you.”

Gemma looked at him. She was touched. “Oh, Sal,” she said. “You know how to melt a girl’s heart, don’t you?”

“I’ve been told,” Sal said as he flashed his bright white smile.

“I apologize for calling you needy,” said Gemma. “You’re anything but.”

Sal nodded. “Damn right. And don’t you forget it,” he said, Gemma slapped him on his ass, and they both laughed. And then kissed. And then finally fell asleep in each other’s arms.

CHAPTER THIRTY

The next day, Gemma woke up groaning to the feel of Sal’s mouth between her legs. And when he realized she had awaken, he moved further up on her body, put his dick in, and they began a passionate morning fuck that was nothing like their passion last night. This time, they were desperate for that feeling again. This time, the bedsprings were singing, the bed was bouncing, and Sal and Gemma were moaning and groaning to the sounds of love as if it was their best fuck ever.

But downstairs, the family that remained in town, along with Reno and Trina who lived in town, were downstairs having breakfast when they began to hear those sounds of love that was coming from upstairs.

“Do they realize how loud they are?” asked Big Daddy with concern on his face. “There are children in this bitch.”

They all laughed. Big Daddy was the Mister Conservative of the family. He, along with his kid brother Mick and their half-sister Amelia, were sitting together at the table. Reno, Tommy, and Dommi were seated with the Sinatras too. The ladies, Trina, Grace, and Marie, were on the other end of the table laughing and talking girl-talk. They would have invited Amelia Sinatra to sit with them, but she was as gangster as her brothers. Before her brothers and Hammer Reese made her get out of the business and try to go legit for once in her life, she had been the boss of one of the largest drug cartels in the country. They knew she preferred her brothers’ kind of conversation.

But when the talk turned to Hammer, Amelia wasn’t her usual boastful self. “How’s Hammer?” Tommy had asked her.

But her look changed. “Don’t even ask,” she responded to him.

Everybody looked at each other. Amelia and Hammer’s marriage was about as tumultuous as Reno and Trina’s. But Big Daddy wasn’t satisfied. “What kind of an answer is that?” he asked his kid sister. “You don’t tell Tommy not to ask the question. You give him an answer.”

“He’s an asshole,” Amelia said to her brother. “Is that a good enough answer, Charlie? He’s a bastard in the first degree. Is that a good answer?”

Everybody heard her and were laughing. That kind of response was so Amelia! But Big Daddy and Mick glanced at each other. They could hear the pain in her voice.

“Anyway,” Amelia said, rising to her feet. “I’m going to say goodbye to Lucky, and then I’ve got to get going. I’ve got to get back to Baltimore.”

“Baltimore?” asked Big Daddy. “Not Montreal?” Baltimore was where Amelia had lived before she married Hammer. Now she and their son lived in Montreal with Hammer.

Amelia tried to smile. “Did anybody ever tell you that you were nosy, Charlie?”

“Did anybody ever tell you I can kick your ass, Amelia?”

Amelia laughed, kissed Big Daddy and Mick, blew kisses at the Gabrinis, and then grabbed her overnight bag. She went to Lucky’s room where the young people were hanging out, gave him a goodbye kiss, and then hurried for the exit. That was typical Amelia too. When the heat was on, she got out.
