"Second base," Dax chuckled in the mind-link. Just wait. I'll be the first to stick it where it counts.

We were dried, cut, and brushed; we didn't look half bad. The stink of dog pound was finally free from our fur, and Seraphina took her time smelling us, surprisingly. "These guys have a strange smell," Seraphina spoke to Trey, who was flipping through the TV. "Bambi smells like clean leather," Seraphina comes over to me and buries her nose in my neck. Shivers ran down me as I pulled my head over for her to get in more. "Thumper smells like scotch or whisky. I'm not sure which; I'm not good with hard alcohol, but it smells amazing!"

"You are going to spoil them, and then they will always want belly rubs." Trey laughed as Seraphina started rolling on the floor with us. She continued to rub my belly while Dax continued to steal kisses from her. Not once did she swat us away to stop, she continued to roll on the floor with us while Trey took pictures with his phone.

Once we stopped rolling on the floor, Seraphina leaned back on me while Dax curled up near her chest burying his muzzle into her breasts.

"I'll spoil them all I want," she giggled.

Trey finally left. We sat beside Seraphina the whole time and took up most of the couch. Trey wasn't too keen on a bunch of wolves being on a sofa, something about manners, but Seraphina brushed it off. She was all too happy to be petting our heads while we laid them in her lap.

Poor Trey wasn't getting any attention, so the fucker left. Good thing, too, because his snotty comments were pissing Dax off. I don't know how many times Seraphina had to pet his damn head to calm him down. Maybe he was doing it on purpose.

Seraphina had begun dinner; she chopped up stew steak and several vegetables and rice and stuck them all in a large pressure cooker. She hummed the entire time and talked to us like we were her old friends.

"I haven't talked much the past year; you will have to forgive me," she poured herself a glass of wine and swirled it in her glass. "It's good to have you two, something permanent and me not being alone all the time. Plus, if something happens to me, you can run off and be alright. I don't think my father would waste his time on animals. He never liked them anyway." My ears perked up as she spoke of her father. Is that the guy after her? Not some ex-boyfriend?

"Lies after lies, I'm tired of lying to people," Seraphina poured her third glass. At this rate, she was going to be drunk before dinner. "I can't tell anyone the truth, or they would go tell on me. There's a bounty on my head, boys, and if the said person brought me into collect the money, they would end up being killed anyway. Father isn't one to hand out money. He'll get rid of evidence so fast you couldn't even dial the police."

"Holy fuck?" Dax stood up.

"I'm safe now!" She used large hand movements as she walked back to the pressure pot to open dinner. "I've got my two best wolves, my gun and self-defense, and I've run so far I don't think he could catch up." The smile she was sporting instantly turned into a frown.

"That's a lie, too," Seraphina stirred the stew and plopped large portions into each of our bowls. Dumping out the rest of her wine in the sink, she took the bowls and placed them on the floor for us. Tender steak, potatoes, carrots, peppers, and rice stared back at us. It was a meal meant for a king; it looked so delicious. Our mouths watered, but both of our ears were pinned on her words.

Taking a measuring cup, she measured exactly one cup and put it in the bowl. "Can't have too much," she whispered. "Got to look my best," a small sob wrecked her.

Taking a small bite while standing at the counter, she chewed slowly, savoring each bite. Both Dax and I felt our hearts breaking for her. The shit she has gone through, we weren't sure. The rugged exterior she put up was a good one and one we would break down as soon as we figured this out.

Seraphina needed us just as much as we needed her. The first thing I was going to do was get her to eat a normal-sized meal.

Chapter Four

Dax

“Whatdowedonow?”Dimitri and I were curled up on the couch with Seraphina. She had one too many of those glasses of wine. Originally pouring down one glass down the sink, she shook her head quickly and poured another glass.

“Weak ass wine,” she muttered. “They don’t make wine like they do in Italy.” One bottle was gone and sat on the coffee table in front of the small television set as she lay on top of us.

“Do we move her? She has to be uncomfortable!” Dimitri nudged Seraphina with his snout as she curled up closer to him. “I mean, I could stay here like this all night, but her neck will be hurting in the morning.”

After a good fifteen minutes of wiggling, we both sat on the floor in front of her. I barked once or twice to see how knocked out she was, and she didn’t even move. “Alright, I’m shifting,” I announced as I backed away from her.

“You will not!”Dimitri shouted as he trotted towards me.“What if she wakes up? What then? Two naked men just walking around in her house?”I snorted.

“She would put a bullet in us for sure. I find that kind of hot.”Dimitri rolled his eyes.

“Stop thinking with your dick, we need to be practical about this.”

“Fine,” I grumbled. “I’ll shift in the bathroom so she won’t hear my bones breaking. You be the look out.” Dimitri muttered under his breath, but I heard him. He had no balls sometimes, always thinking ahead, sometimes you gotta jump in two feet and take it as it comes. If it were up to him we would never shift and be her damn pets for two years before he would consider it.

Closing the bathroom door, I reminded Dominic it was time to shift. We hadn’t done it in at least 93 days longer than we have ever had tried. We did it for a week once to make mother upset, but she just called Dimitri her little puppy. Gods, he is such a suck up with mom. If she put a bow in his hair I bet he would let her do it. Damn brown noser.

The ridges of my backbone started first, the vertebrae were always the hardest to realign and also the loudest. Grunting and growling all while shifting Dominic grumbled to not ever go that long without shifting back to human form. My bones were still aching but standing up straight made my back feel like a million bucks.

Twisting side to side I took a good look at myself in the mirror. Eh, we didn’t look that bad. Muscles still there, stomach still flat, might need to do a few sit-ups before we showed our bodies to Seraphina. I had to be in peak condition to ravage her all night. My physique was alright, now the real damage.

Looking down I saw nothing but hair.“Fuck,”I whispered. It was a damn bush down there, not to mention sporting a bit of hair on the chest. Maybe I could use her razor. Shaving my chest was no problem, I always liked a little bit on there, shows how fuckin manly we are but, checking out for the goods was going to be a different story. I need more than some razor for this mess.
