The older I got living in the place I once called home, I realized my father wasn't the businessman he portrayed himself to be. He was part of the damn mafia. The guns, guards, and dogs raised to kill started to look funny to me when I’d watch a picture-perfect family on TV. The way everyone acted around my home was like a stick was up their butt.

The mafia, it was the mafia. It only took me one time to look up my father's name on an unlocked phone from a guard, and it confirmed my suspicions. No wonder my mother had me do self-defense classes and learn how to use a gun. She was preparing me for a life she wanted me to run away from.

Bambi and Thumper paced in the back seat and licking the windows. I should have checked to see if they needed a potty break before we left. Opening the door quickly, they both hopped out and sniffed the air.

"Go potty!" I waved my hand to the backyard. It wasn't fenced in; the house backed straight up into the woods. They were wolves, so I figured they would know what to do. Yet, using the words "go potty" probably didn't ring a bell.

Bambi took off first and hit the side of the woods. I stared at him while he stared back. "What's he doing, Thumper?" I giggled at the name while he glared at me. "Did you just glare at me?" I laughed again. "Alright, we will figure out new names for you both." Bambi trotted back, and Thumper shot off into the woods, going in a little deeper than Bambi. Thumper trotted back too, and we all went into the tiny house along with all our groceries. I now had a small family of my own that I could come home to.

Pulling off my black hiking boots, I pulled two switchblade knives from inside my sock and tossed them on the small coffee table. Then taking the handgun strapped at the back of my pants, I put it next to the flowers in the kitchen. I didn't bother to take out the clip and left one bullet in the chamber.

"Time to get to work," I clapped. I pointed to Bambi and Thumper, "you need a bath. Like a good one." They both looked at each other for a moment before keeping their heads down, following me into the bathroom.

Chapter Three

Idon'tthinkthatSeraphina was planning on adopting a dog today. She stopped in the town's small grocery store and cracked the windows. Fear radiated off Dax as he realized we would not be getting out of the big hunk of metal. "Be right back!" she chirped as she slammed the door and locked it with the wireless remote.

"Oh, gods,"Dax started scratching at the window. "The fuck is she going?" Dax barked frantically, then howled. He looked like he was about to take a shit right there in the car. That would have been a great first-day impression.

Seraphina had done well by herself without us in this town, the threat didn't seem to be near, but one couldn't be too careful. Dax's possessiveness had come out strong, and the bond was only going to get stronger until we mated with her. The time was already growing short for us to reveal ourselves.

Seraphina skipped back to the car, large bag in hand. I could already smell some steak, sausages, and ground beef as she opened and closed the front seat. "See, I wasn't gone long. Bambi, you aren't going to poop, are you?" I snorted in laughter, and Dax only glared at me, but a moment because he only gave loving eyes to Seraphina. She scratched under his chin and cranked up the danger mobile, and led us out of the parking lot.

The perky Seraphina faded as we traveled down the bumpy dirt road outside of town. She grabbed her thighs with one of her hands as the distant look took over. She was thinking of something. It only made me wonder if it was the reason why she adopted us. Seraphina wanted big dogs, protective dogs, as she spoke to Aaron back there. We'd be the strong Alphas she needed.

The clunker stopped at a small cottage, white with black shutters. It needed a lot of work, but she seemed proud of it. "Home sweet home," she pulled the gear in park and let us out. Dax took off into the woods to do his business, but didn't want to let his eyes off Seraphina. Mind-linking him to hurry up, he left, and I stayed. We would tag team it every way we could, so she was never alone. One in, one out, and she was always protected.

Inside the cottage, it was primarily white. It reminded me of mother's cabin we stayed in before we went off the Ever-Green Pack. Whites, nude colors, and several green succulent plants by the window. A small two-person kitchen table sat in the middle of the kitchen. This had to be a one-bedroom home, perfect. We would have to sleep in the same room as her when the time came.

"I wonder how big her bed is?" Dax ran off and found the bedroom. "Sweet! A king-size! It's a metal frame though, I bet we will make some holes in the wall making sweet love to her. That's alright though," Dax looked at Seraphina as she set the groceries down."It will do until we get back to Bergarian, don't you think?"

"If we ever make it back,"I muttered. I didn't mind having to stay in a small cottage for a while. The castle was overly big, and there was always someone to entertain. Luckily, we will take over the Crimson Shadows eventually, but our lives will be busy until then. What's a couple years in the boonies banging our mate?

Hearing a clink on the table, I saw our mate pulling two knives from her boots and a gun already on the kitchen counter. "The fuck? She is so fuckin' badass. I hope she decides to change into a Wolf. Think what kind of Luna she would be?"Dax joked as he went to the kitchen to sniff around.

"That is her decision," I snapped. "She could remain human and would still be a kick-ass,"Dax mumbled in my head as he sniffed through the trash. His Wolf, Dominic, must have taken over. Those two were made for each other. Both messy and horny for their mate.

"You two," Seraphina pointed at us, "need a bath and a good one." Dominic stopped sniffing through the trash and looked up. Dominic hated baths, so he quickly retreated to the back of Dax’s mind.

"She's gonna touch us," Dax snickers, "like all over." I rolled my eyes and saw the soap and shampoo come out of the grocery bag along with a brush and scissors. Our mate had taken care of us by adopting us, now grooming. How embarrassing. We are going to owe her so much.

As we began to walk to the one bathroom with a giant tub, there was a knock on the door. Seraphina stiffened and reached for her gun on the counter and held it behind her back. Dax began to growl, and our hair stood up between our shoulders. We were both ready for attack mode; she obviously wasn't expecting company.

As she about opened the door, there was a yell on the other side. "Come on, Seraphina, open up! I know you are home!" Seraphina let out a silent breath and put her gun in the back of her jeans. Opening the door, it was a tall boy. Shaggy blonde hair that came down to his ears. Plaid red shirt and tight jeans with his thick-rimmed glasses.

"A hipster," Dax growled at him, and I did the same. No male was to step foot in here. Both of us slinked forward, and the man held up his arms.

"Hey, Seraphina! Oh!" The hipster jumped back in surprise. "Zoey said you might get a dog. Did you adopt two? Are these them?"

"No, they are a breed of rabbit." We all looked at her like she had lost her head. "Of course, they are dogs, dummy." She slapped his shoulder. "Actually, they are wolves, but I've grown quite an attachment to them as they have me." Seraphina got on her knees again as we rubbed our scent all over her. He can't touch her with this. This is some powerful Alpha scent that goes on for miles. This tool wasn't getting anywhere near her.

"Easy there, easy!" Seraphina petted our heads as we calmed down. "Trey, what are you doing here? How did you know I lived here?"Red flag, abort, abort. We both growled again, and Trey stepped back.

"Zoey did. I asked her for your address," he sheepishly shrugged his shoulders as he tried to walk back in. Dax snapped, but Seraphina shushed him. Poor Dax whined, and Seraphina cooed at him.

"Aw, I'm sorry, Bambi, you are so sensitive, aren't you?" Dax licked her face while she playfully pushed him away.
