“Silly Wolf,” she giggled. “She is perfect for the boys, and what was the hug all about earlier? I don’t think you have ever hugged one of our daughters that long.” Clara pulled me back, both her hands on my face, trailing the deep scar that now ran down the side of my face. The damn demons who we fought so many years ago were a constant reminder that our family had to be protected. Torin would let no one harm our immediate family. Now that he had held Seraphina in our arms, he became protective of her as well.
My family was all that I lived for. Each birth of a new child made Torin stronger to protect them. Every day he purred in my head, thinking about how proud he was of each one. Each had their talents, desires and dreams. We wanted them to live out those dreams and be supported. We gave them the best teachers, the best learning experiences, and enough love to last several lifetimes.
With Seraphina, there was a shift in Torin’s behavior, when we hugged her. I was taken aback. I had only felt this sudden shift with Evelyn and my boys. That difference is the half shift that we now called a Lycan Shift. A powerful grip I could feel from the bottom of my claws to the depth of my heart. Power, pure power filling me and then rotating back into my three out of four children. I felt it with three of my children, but not with Melody.
My only conclusion was that Melody had too pure of a heart, just like her mother. They do not crave the fight; they crave peace. My boys and Evelyn were gifted with a Lycan because of our fierce protectiveness. It gave us our half forms, now known as Lycans. Thousands of years ago they gave it a name, and with the old texts, Melody found many facts about the half change or Lycanology. The study of the royal half-form.
Luckily for us, Melody found out this information just three months ago. I had many new tricks up my sleeve to take to battle with. Torin howled within me, ready to put it to good use.
“You felt it in her?” Clara said, aghast. My mate was the ever observant one, able to feel my mood shifts before they could ever happen.
“I did,” Torin growled in my head. “There is more to it. She’s half Elf. I don’t know what will happen to her or even if the shift will happen properly. Evelyn, Dimitri, Dax, and me are all pureblooded. Seraphina is not.” Clara sighed, biting her lip. Damn that lip. My cock stirred to life, putting pressure on the inside of my jeans.
My mouth met hers, pulling her lip with my bottom teeth. My pierced tongue invaded her mouth while I pulled her closer by the waist. “You can’t do that,” I whispered into her mouth. “Or I’ll have to take you in front of all these people.” Her innocent eyes grew wide, patting my arm.
“Sorry,” her blush painted her cheeks. She acts so innocent when I know every square inch of her tiny body like the back of my hand. My claws wanted to sink into her skin, pull my cock out and fuck her right here on the pack house steps, but we have a job to do, and I don’t think she would find pleasure in doing something so vulgar outside.
Pecking her lips one more time, “Is there a way to get you to go with Tua and the children?” Clara pretended to think, patting her lips with one finger.
“Nope!” she popped the ‘p,’ and sauntered off in a pale-yellow dress. “I’d get the warriors in formation. I don’t think the Kitsune is going to wait the full twenty-four hours,” she said in seriousness.
The large pack house doors opened, out came a sauntering Cyrene wearing an off-the-shoulder top baring two marks. “About damn time,” I growled out, stomping over to her. “Do you have any idea what we are dealing with here and you are over there fucking? Could you not wait…” Suddenly my throat was cut off by an invisible hand. Cyrene’s hand shaped like she was the one doing it.
This looks like some Star Wars shit Clara made me watch.
“Still such an impatient beast you are even with Clara by your side.” Growling my fingers wrapped around my neck, my Lycan claws extended, ripping the invisible hand. Cyrene stepped back in confusion, rubbing the claw marks on her arm. They quickly disappeared, most likely from Soren’s healing abilities she gained.
“Still cocky as ever,” I whispered dangerously, hovering over her body. “New little trick, I figured out. Do you like it?” Cyrene huffed, sticking her tongue out.
“Good to see you, Kane.”
Giving her a half smile, I patted her shoulder. “Indeed. We need a portal to get these kids away.” Cyrene and I have a friend, enemy relationship. She was a Sorceress, and I didn’t trust her as far as I could throw her when we first met. Cyrene proved herself loyal to the Cerulean Moon Kingdom crown and I will be ever grateful for the times she shared with our family so many years ago.
“On it, I can only get them somewhere on Earth. I won’t tell anyone where I am sending them so the Kitsune won’t find them as easily if we… you know,” Cyrene trailed off.
“There will be no losing, not this day.” Cyrene gave a reluctant smile while she headed towards the children as they run around screaming in excitement.
“Your Majesty, the border is secure. They have sent the children through the portal. We are asking for further direction,” Lonato quipped. He had strong fighting abilities for a young Wolf and had the perfect etiquette concerning pack ranks. Even though this pack was rather small.
“Excellent. Did your mate go with the children?” Lonato shook his head. “No sir, she decided to work in the clinic to deliver blood transfusions.” Lonato’s face showed no sign of emotion speaking of his mate and no resistance in having her leave the pack to keep her safe. If my mate had no Wolf, I would have immediately sent her away. What is Lonato trying to get at here?
“Why have you not claimed her more openly?” I bluntly said. His face did not falter, hands clenching in a fist.
“With all due respect…” he began.
“Excuse me, your King as asked you a question,” I snapped. Lonato’s Wolf made him back away, baring his neck. “Mates are the ultimate gift, and it looks like you are resisting. I have exalted you, but if you reject your mate, I will think differently.” My fangs grew. Torin was pacing inside me, wanting to begin any fight, even with our own pack members, to sate his lust for blood today.
“Your Majesty, fear. Fear is stopping me. I wasn’t the best to her when we were younger, pushed her away. I even pushed her to date someone who ended up being a traitor and was killed for it not but a few days ago. If I push her any further to pain…”
“Grow some balls,” I interrupted. All these damn Earth Wolves are a bunch of pussies. “This is the time she needs you. She has no one. See her before the fight begins. You never know what will happen amid greed and jealousy. There are no guarantees for another day.” Cause I knew what it was like to almost lose someone, to think they would be gone forever. Turning my back, I walked away, leaving Lonato to his thoughts and small balls.
“Fuck, stop talking to people. It’s irritating.”Torin growled in my head. “We are supposed to be preparing for a war, not become a damn therapist.”
“Fuck off,” I whispered.
“No, you fuck off. Or we can go fuck or mate. I’ll settle for that.”
“Damn, you have two emotions, horny or insatiable, for a fight. Can you just go to sleep or something until…”
