As I reach the door, he says darkly, “I should just explain there is nowhere to run, so don’t get any ideas. Mr. Prince has decided you will be more comfortable in the main house.”
I blink in astonishment. “He did?”
The man nods curtly.
“So, unless you want to remain here, it’s best to just follow me and accept your situation.”
I nod, but my mind is crowded with possibility right now. This is good, more than good. I could plan my escape from the house. There must be a phone, possibly someone to get on my side. I could be free if I just play my cards close to my chest.
As I follow the man from my dungeon, I take deep breaths of fresh air. It feels good to be outside. The walls were stifling and the air rank inside that hell hole.
As we walk, I notice a pretty pathway lined by flowers and shrubs, and it has a really pleasant vibe. “Where are we?”
I risk a question but am met with a stony silence. Rude.
Sizing up my escort, I quickly come to the conclusion I would lose in a fight and so I try to be clever about this because my first instinct is to slam him in the head with my killer heel and run for the forest that sits in the distance. However, from the look of the man, he races in the Olympics for fun and could snap my neck without breaking a sweat, so I follow him meekly and try to formulate a plan instead.
One thing’s for sure, I’m excited. This is unexpected. A glimmer of hope in the darkness. I’m being taken to the main house where anything could happen.
