She raises her eyes and throws me a hard look as I’m caught out staring at her with a hunger that must definitely show on my face.
“Not really.”
“Liar.”
She closes her menu as the waitress stops by with our coffee and she smiles, which totally transforms her face. Her eyes sparkle and her pearly white teeth bring a softness to her face that drags something out of my jaded heart. A picture of innocence wrapped in the most tempting package. I look away.
“May I order a house special, with double hash browns and a side of pancakes, please?”
I laugh softly because I’m so used to women who chew on nothing but fruit and sawdust for fear of their figure. This is a nice surprise.
“And you.”
The waitress stares at me with hunger in her eyes as I fix her with my most intense look. It’s not for her benefit though, it’s for the sassy bartender who I am finding a strange pleasure in riling up.
“Same darlin’.” I wink and the woman almost melts to the floor as she takes my menu and her hand brushes mine. “Anything else, sir?”
She licks her lips and then I feel a sharp kick on my leg from under the table that takes me by surprise. I look up to see the woman opposite smirking as she leans her elbows on the table, watching me with an amused expression.
“Um, no, thanks.”
I hand the waitress the menu and, as she goes, shrug. “What was that for?”
“I just wanted to prove something to myself.”
“Like what?”
“That every man lowers his defenses when a woman catches his eye, and that’s proved it. I could have blown your dick off and you wouldn’t have seen it coming. Word of advice, soldier, don’t let your guard down even for a second when you’re in hostile territory.”
I stare at her in surprise as she wraps those plump lips around the mug and takes a sip and I watch her eyes darken with desire as she groans softly, “Man, I need this so much.”
I can’t concentrate on anything but watching her almost orgasm over a fucking cup of coffee and imagine what she’d be like beneath me, on top of me, against the wall…
“So, what are you thinking?”
“I don’t think”
“Sex, then?”
She laughs and I shake my head. “What makes you think it’s sex, to be honest that’s the furthest thing from my mind where you’re concerned.”
“Or anyone else, so I’ve heard.”
Her words, as they were designed to do, irritate me and I snarl, “You know nothing, you’ve been here five minutes and what do you know?”
“I know you keep away from women, don’t have a thing for men, in that way, anyway and I was warned to keep my distance, a warning I may add that was unnecessary because I had made up my mind to do that the minute you opened your mouth.”
“Is that so?”
“Yes, youandyour brother and god forbid either of you had to actually charm a woman, you’d both find the caveman attitude doesn’t work in the modern world, just saying.”
“It’s worked just fine until now.”
“Then why are you both still looking, unless you haven’t found what you’re looking for?”
“Who says I’m looking, or my brother, come to mention it? We may be perfectly happy just the way we are.”
“You may, only time will tell but word of advice, drop the caveman act, it’s sooo unattractive.”
