Slade is leaning against the door and I nod. “Have I missed anything?”

“No, usual shit.”

He yawns and looks around disdainfully. “These guys know shit. I was asking around, off the record, and they heard nothing. Axel’s fighting a losing one here because I’m guessing there’s not a biker here that can shed some light on Billy’s…”

He breaks off and his eyes narrow and as he looks down, I feel his pain. “We’ll get the bastard; don’t you worry about that.”

I place my hand on his arm and he shrugs it off. “Yeah, well, if it’s all the same to you, I won’t hold my breath. Anyway, where have you been?”

“Buster’s.”

“It’s not like you to dine alone.”

“I wasn’t—alone.”

Thinking about the new girl chewing her food makes me instantly hard and despite her sass, she surprised me by her company. I like a woman who takes no shit, and she is certainly a fine example of that.

“So, who was the unlucky lady?”

“The new girl.”

“What the…” Slade looks at me and his eyes flash.

“You miserable fucker, I told you she was mine, back off.”

“Maybe she has something to say about that, she didn’t seem keen on being anyone’s hook up.”

“She doesn’t get a choice. You’ll be out of here soon and that leaves me fighting to find someone clean to dip into. You know this place, it’s full of disease and bad endings and she’s the first half decent bitch to walk into the place and I’ve already told Axel she’s going up for auction.”

“I thought…”

“He said keep away. Wrong. I reminded him it’s club rules that all single girls either pair up, or put out. Well, I’ve already put the word out nobody is to challenge me for her and so when she goes on the block, I’m taking the prize.”

Thinking about the new girl under my brother makes me feel a little uncomfortable and I don’t know why. Why should I care? I’m not interested and they can get on with it as far as I’m concerned. Then again, my own cock hardens at the thought of those plump lips and body made for sin and realize I’m not as immune to her as I want to be. It must be because I’m desperate, because I’m not interested in a biker whore. I want to get the fuck out of here as soon as we find my father’s killer and return to the military, where hopefully one day I’ll find a decent girl and put this shit behind me.

The meeting begins and we listen to Axel following the usual line of enquiry and I tune out. Slade was right, it’s obvious no one knows shit, so after an hour of useless talk, we leave with nothing but the promise of any information if it surfaces.

We head homeand as we pull up in the yard, Axel grunts, “Fucking SUV’s gone. Marina’s out shopping again, fuck me, I need a drink.”

The other guys head inside but I say quickly, “Axel.”

He turns and I lower my voice. “Slade tells me there’s an auction, I thought…”

He runs his fingers through his hair and growls, “Can’t avoid it. Slade’s right, for the girl’s own protection she needs to be paired up. Why, you interested?”

Just thinking of that woman’s soft curves and wicked smile tells me I am most definitely interested, but I can’t go there, it wouldn’t be fair on either of us. I’m leaving as soon as I can and if I’m with her, I can’t. Leaving her here alone while I’m overseas wouldn’t be fair on her. She’d end up in a whole lot of trouble, and I couldn’t live with myself if she folded because of me. The trouble is, I would be leaving her with Slade and just thinking of that damaged bastard even touching her, doesn’t sit right with me. He’d break her before the night is out, I’ve seen it happen too many times. A sassy woman with all the talk looks haunted after one night with my brother. I know he’s into serious shit and I’m guessing isn’t the loving kind. Then again, it’s not my business how he gets his kicks and I should take a shower and forget all about the new girl so I shrug and say dismissively, “Na, not me.”

Axel shrugs and walks away, leaving me with a bitter taste on my tongue, and I sigh. Maybe I need a spell in the ring and beat the shit out of someone to deal with my frustrations.

Deciding that would be the best answer to all my problems, I turn my bike away from the Castle and head to the gym instead.

Chapter 9

Millie

Ithink we’ve bought the contents of the Home Depot and it takes some doing unloading it. Luckily, Marina enlists the help of a couple of Dragons who don’t seem bothered by helping. I’d say they will do anything for the fiery woman because I’m fast learning they all love every bone in her body. She has much the same respect as Ashton has at the Rubicon, strictly off limits but loved by all women and men, me included. Not that I’ve been given much time to get acquainted with the others in the Castle yet, but I’m guessing it will happen soon enough.
