"He was a bit of a ladies' man once upon a time."
"What did-"
Gamble elbowed him in the side and Spooky grunted. "Shut. Up," the mage whispered. "Read the room."
Spooky glanced around and instantly closed his mouth. Arden looked exhausted and Ezra was still quiet. Even though Anaya was smiling, even she kept flicking her gaze to Arden and her smile would try to falter before it snapped back into place.
Yep. Talking too much.
"Sorry," he muttered before he snapped his lips shut for good.
"You've brought your mates," Anaya said. "I didn't know you had found one, let alone five," she said as she took them all in. "Why didn't you tell me?"
Spooky turned and stared at Arden along with the rest of them. The dragon looked around wildly.
Did she just say his mates?
“I’m sorry, what did she just say?” Spooky blurted out.
Micha nodded and he wanted her to repeat what had come out of her mouth. There was no way in hell she’d said what he thought she said.It was insanity. Impossible, downright coo-coo bananas. Right?
Micha’s head swam as his blood rushed.
“Mates,” Anaya said again but she sounded a little bit more unsure of herself. Her amber eyes so much like Arden’s skipped over to her son. “Arden, have you not informed them?”
Spooky placed his hands on his hips and Micha couldn't understand how everyone wasn’t freaking out. He glanced over at Eldon. If the vampire was surprised, he was a lot better at hiding it than Micha and Spooky. Even Gamble had recovered and Bash simply looked angry but that wasn’t out of the ordinary.
“Mother, we can talk about this later,” Arden said.
Anaya glanced at them once more before she gave a curt nod.
“My lady, the guest rooms are ready,” one of the men who’d come to help them said.
The thought of being split away from Arden in a new strange place made Micha’s skin itch and a sense of restlessness coated him.
“I hope you mean you can talk about this later with us,” Eldon whispered. The vampire held Arden’s wrist and Micha caught the severity written all over Eldon’s face. Just like that, the cool and collected exterior disappeared.
Arden looked both angry and vulnerable. “Later.”
Eldon nodded and moved so fast Micha would have missed it if he hadn’t been watching. The vampire kissed Arden on the lips. It was short but there nonetheless.
“Aww, it’s not fair if you’re the only one who gets a kiss,” Spooky grumbled.
Gamble grabbed him and covered his mouth. “You really suck at this shutting up thing.”
Bash stared at Arden but in the end, the bear shifter moved over toward Micha. “Come on, better give the boss man a moment.”
Micha pulled his gaze from Arden and smiled at Bash’s offered arm. He looped his own arm with his as they followed the man away from Arden.
“It’s going to be okay,” Bash whispered.
Micha’s cheeks warmed. “Thank you.”
Micha rested his head on Bash’s shoulder as they walked the expansive hallways. He hardly took anything in his mind already starting to race.
“Here we are,” their guide said.
Before Micha knew it, there was only him and Bash left. “Where is everyone?”
