He blinks at me, his eyes wide.
“Not that they betrayed me. But I’m still glad it happened. We might not be sitting here if they hadn’t slept together. I might have married Adam. And I’m so very glad I didn’t.”
A smile curves his lips, and he lets go of my hand to cup my face. “I adore you, Elli. You’re—” he shakes his head. “You’re exactly what I needed. I just didn’t know it until now.” My heart swells and I have to blink back tears. I’ve never felt so cherished in my entire life. “And I can’t wait to show you off to the world tomorrow.”
It takes a second for his words to sink into my love addled brain. “Wait, what?”
“The label is throwing a party tomorrow. And beforehand, you and I will give an interview and formally announce that we’re in a relationship.”
My breathing is shallow, my palms clammy. “I don’t have anything to wear,” I blurt, and he chuckles.
“That’s what you’re worried about? Well, worry not, princess. I had a bunch of dresses delivered yesterday. I picked them out myself.” There’s a gleam in his eyes that shoots straight to my core.
“How scandalous are they, exactly?”
His low laugh is more like a purr. “You’ll start a riot, princess. But don’t worry. I’ll be there to protect you.”
I put my almost untouched plate of pizza onto the nightstand. And then I throw my arms around his neck and kiss him. His laughter vibrates in his chest as he carefully puts his plate down before pulling me onto his lap, his hands on my ass. And as he claims my mouth with his and our bodies melt together, I realize I’ll never get sick of this. Not ever. Devon Wakefield has stolen my heart, and I don’t think he’ll be giving it back anytime soon.
