Prologue: Rainey

Lucian held me tight against him. His strong arms were heavenly, and I loved the way my chest felt pressed against his. He plundered my mouth with his tongue. He tickled the roof of my mouth and then gently caressed the top of my tongue with his. Our tongues danced a wild tango.

I could feel the need rising in my body. The waves of heat were growing like a crescendo in an orchestra. Electrical impulses shot through me and reverberated inside as though a thousand basses were being strummed all at the same time.

“I need you, my love. Please, baby. I need you so very much,” I whispered to Lucian.

“I know, love.”

His hard cock pressed against my wet pussy, and he hesitated only a moment. Then, so slowly, he entered me, gently so as not to hurt me as he took my virginity and made me his woman for all time.

Slowly, he moved into me until his full eleven inches was embedded deep inside of me. The pain was sharp, but only for an instant. Then, it was replaced by an indescribable feeling that was so amazing. It took my breath away.

Lucian continued to kiss me as he began to move his hips. Slowly, he pulled his length out of me, only to push his way back in. I marveled at how my body stretched around his - clenching his hard, thick shaft, massaging it - as he sent another chorus of heatwaves through me.

My heart thundered and raced as his lips found one of my nipples and sucked it so softly while his hand rubbed my other nipple so gently - his touch was like the merest breeze.

His deep green eyes looked deep into my soul as he pressed tightly against me and began to move his hips in circles. I lifted my hips, giving him deeper access, instinctively responding to his touch.

I closed my eyes and began to pant as feelings I had never known existed crashed together in a massive explosion. This explosion sent the electrical impulses to every cell inside of me and the center of my body.

As Lucian began to move in and out of me, rubbing my insides, touching every part of me, I cried out his name, “Lucian, my sweet love.”

Then, a rush of hot lava coursed through me and over his hard cock, as my pussy pulsated, gripping him hard, and my entire body vibrated.

As I reached my first orgasm ever from making love, Lucian’s cock began to throb, and he exploded, sending a jet of hot cream inside of me.

We rested together, intertwined. When we were able to breathe again, Lucian smiled at me. He brushed my hair out of my face and said, “I love you. You are so beautiful.”

“I love you,” I said.

He rolled over and fished in his pants pocket for something. Then, he pulled out a box.

“I was planning on doing this over dinner tonight, but I want to now. It’s not as romantic, but…” he opened the box, “Rainey, will you marry me?”

I was so stunned. I was expecting him to ask me eventually but was surprised that he did so now. Despite my surprise, my heart leaped for joy, and I answered immediately, “Of course, I will.”

He kissed me deeply. It was a passionate kiss that told of eternal love and undying devotion.

At least, that was what I thought.

That night was the last time I saw Lucien.

The next morning, his family was woken up early by a knock on the door. It was an Army Chaplain and a General. His brother, Cedric, who had been an Army Ranger, had been on a mission in the Middle East. They were ambushed by some men who had been terrorizing the local farmers.

Cedric had died fighting. He had been shot but continued to lay down ground fire as the rest of his unit rescued the other wounded soldiers and civilians. There were several wounded, but because of Cedric’s heroism, there were no other casualties.

Lucian and his parents were devastated. Cedric had always been their bright, shining star. Lucian had always looked up to his older brother and thought his brother walked on water. Cedric’s father was so proud when his eldest son had become an Army Ranger. Now, Cedric was gone.

Lucian’s father was devastated, and his mother was inconsolable. However, the dragon shifter’s heart in Lucian hardened. At the precise moment that Lucian discovered that his brother had been killed, his heart was filled with nothing but the desire to seek revenge against those he deemed responsible for taking his beloved brother away.

Gone were the whispered promises he and I had made from the time we were so young. Apparently, we didn’t understand what love meant. Gone was the deep love he and I had forged over so many years, that was based on friendship and grew into a passion that I had thought was untouchable and unbreakable. Gone were the dreams of a happy marriage and baby dragon shifters.

All that remained was the hollow center of a ring that no longer had meaning.

Lucian’s mother, Maria, said that as soon as the Army Chaplain and the General left, Lucian’s face turned to stone. His deep emerald eyes, that earlier had shown so much emotion and love, became hardened jewels embedded in his face.

Maria said that Lucian had nodded to his father, kissed his mother on the cheek, and walked out the door. He went straight to a recruiter. No one knows how he spent his time before he got his orders to head out, but his parents never saw him again. If they heard from him, they didn’t tell me.
