EPILOGUE ONE

GRACE ~ THREE MONTHS LATER

Iloved that Jack and I still went to Barcade every couple of weeks. It wasn't just a childish escape. We really did love the games, and were getting pretty competitive at some of them. Over the past three months I’d been practicing, to the point that I had begun beating him occasionally, which he took with good humor.

Tonight was extra special. Jack had insisted on taking me out to celebrate my Fancy Fun Food Blog's newsletter reaching a thousand subscribers.

As soon as we sat down, our favorite server, Joanna, came running over with a new menu. "Congratulations, Grace," she said with a grin, flipping over the laminated sheet to point at a bright red panel.

I gasped, my hand fluttering to my mouth. They redid the menu every two months, so people were used to seeing new food. But tonight there were three new specials, with a note that the recipes came from the Fancy Fun Food Blog. They had even listed my website.

Joanna seemed surprised by my shock. "You didn't know?" She glared at Jack, taking his menu to bop him on the head lightly. "You little sneak. I thought you were talking to the chef here on Grace's behalf."

"Oops. Obviously, we'll take one each of Grace's dishes," Jack laughed.

Joanna turned to me and rolled her eyes. "What do you think, should we let him have a beer tonight?"

"Hmm. Just one. And I'll have a white wine."

I found that alcohol had no effect on Jack's game performance, but I played a bit better after half a drink. An hour later, I had beaten him at two of our favorite games.

"Wow," he said, not even shaken. "Just wow, baby. Grab a seat, you deserve a reward for that."

I loved that he was not only a graceful loser, he was genuinely impressed. Jack took off to the prize area for a moment, and I wondered if he was getting me another crystal bracelet. He came back to our table, which was now quiet since the pre-movie crowd had left.

Jack picked up my chair with me in it, turning it to face him. My giggling stopped as he dropped to his knee, holding up a plastic gold ring with chunky pink crystals and a tiny gold unicorn.

I would have laughed at his dramatic gesture, but he seemed so serious.

"Grace, I love you. I have more love for you that I would have thought possible. I would never have imagined finding someone so absolutely perfect for me. If you would do me the honor of becoming my wife, I will continue to spend every single day trying to make you as happy and comfortable as possible."

I blinked away tears as he slipped the ring on my finger. "Obviously this is temporary," he said with a wink. "We have an appointment at a jeweler tomorrow to pick out whatever you want. Will you marry me, baby?"

"Yes," I whispered. Swallowing hard, I nodded. "You know the answer is yes."

A cheer went up, and I turned to see the entire staff and a handful of customers applauding.

Jack scooped me into his arms as he stood up, kissing me while spinning us slowly.

"I love you," I whispered, "forever."

"That's the idea."

I glanced over to see Joanna put her phone away. She must have been taking photos.

"This is so much better than somewhere fancy," I laughed.

Jack grinned. "Fancy food, fun and casual vibe. That's you, right?"

My head fell back as I laughed. Then I noticed a couple at the back coming toward us.

Mom ran to me, grabbing me in a hug. "Congratulations, honey. He really is a nice man, and I'm so glad you're happy together."

Dad shook Jack's hand. "A bit quick with the proposal, but you've never been one to waste time, have you?"

"Never," Jack chuckled, clapping Dad on the back. "Thanks for coming, Corbin. I appreciate it, and I am sure Grace does too."

Dad caught me in a big bear hug, and whispered, "I just want you to be happy, sweetie. I'm sorry I was upset at first. I'm so glad it all turned out."
