"Of course," I said, trailing my fingers along the side of her angelic face. "I need you to be happy, Grace. That's suddenly one of the most important things in my life. So if you want a career, I'm going to help you find whatever is right for you."
"Wow. Thank you."
I didn't mention that money would never be an issue for us. I wasn't sure whether she knew how wealthy I actually was. But after announcing that she wanted a career, and to work outside the home, I certainly wasn't going to tell her that she couldn’t do that.
It felt strange dropping Grace off instead of taking her home with me. It already seemed like we had bonded, and that somehow, on a higher plane, we were already connected.
As soon as I got home, I sent her a text.
Me: I'd tell you that I miss you already, but that sounds pretty cheesy. So instead, I'll just say that I can't wait to see you tomorrow.
Grace: I'll be ready at 8:30.
Me: Cheeky. I like that. See you at 7:45.
Grace: I might bring espresso.
Me: You're already reading my mind.
Grace:Working on it!
My girl was absolutely adorable. More than that, it filled me with excitement that I was already thinking of her as my girl.
