“Nothing.” Kayla stared down at the screen. “This guy I’m...” How would she classify it? “Seeing? Um...he just asked me to dinner. He’s busy with work, so we never really get together during the week.”
“Invite him here.” Gina sipped her beer. “Problem solved.”
“Here?” She looked at her co-workers. “I guess I could.”
He probably wouldn’t come. Everything had to be on his terms, but it couldn’t hurt to ask. She answered him back.
I’m out at Catalina’s with friends who wanted to say goodbye.
She hit send, chickening out on inviting him.
How will you get home?
IDK? Cab...subway?
“What did he say?” Gina asked.
“I didn’t ask him.”
“Is he good looking?”
“Extremely.” Kayla thought about his perfect body clad in a dark suit and expensive shoes. His silver watch shimmering as it caught the sun. Not a hair out of place as he shot her that sexy smile. “Very.” She squirmed in her seat when she thought about undressing him, revealing his sculpted body.
“I want to see him.” Gina laughed. “Can he hook me up with a friend?”
Probably. Visions of Sapphire invaded her thoughts, but she decided to keep those comments to herself.
“Come on,” Gina urged. “Ask him here. He obviously wants to see you tonight.”
Kayla’s phone beeped with another text.
I’ll send Francis for you when you’re ready to go home.
She took a deep breath and typed.
I have a better idea.
His text was immediate.
What is it?
You could join me...
Her thumb shook as she hit send, taking a sip of her beer as she waited for his reply. His text came much faster than she had anticipated.
I’ll be there in 20 minutes.
Cool.
“Well?” Gina asked.
“He’s on his way.”
“Looks like we’re finally going to have that drink together,” Mitch said as he approached the table.
Oh, no! Why is he here?
“Hey, Mitch,” Gina said. “Kayla was just telling me her boyfriend is on his way.”
