“Did you? That was one of the other reasons I was calling you.”
“Really?”
“I was going to tell you she’s in the city and maybe you could look out for her since I’m not in the city.”
“Me?”Hell, no, not me.“Why does she need looking after?”
“She’s a good kid, but she’s a little lost right now.”
“She’s not a kid anymore.”She’s an incredibly sexy, attractive woman who I’d like to fuck six ways to Sunday.“I mean.” He cleared his throat, trying to push back these impure thoughts he had for his best friend’s sister. “She graduated from Princeton and has a job. She’s living on her own. She seems to have it together.” Except for the part where she wants a stranger to tie her up and...
“A job she hates, but my father is forcing her hand. I’ve tried to intervene, but you know the old man. He’s stubborn.”
Like your sister.
“Anyway, I thought maybe you might have something in your firm for her.”
“She has a degree in journalism.” There was no way he could have her prancing around his office every day, distracting him, taunting him, making him want her even more than he already did.
“I know, but maybe there’s something she could do?”
“I have a few friends in advertising and copyediting. Maybe that would better suit her.”What am I doing?“I’ll put out some feelers and get back to you in a few days.”
“That would be great, Jules. She hasn’t been herself since coming home this spring. She needs to find herself. She needs new opportunities.”
Don’t tell her that.
“I’ll see what I can do.”
“So, do you have someone you can take to dinner with me and Caroline?”
“Not currently.”Let’s not go there.
“Can’t you find someone at your club for a night?”
“It’s not an escort service. It’s a matchmaking place.”
“Right.” Jack snorted. “Why haven’t they found a match for you after all these years?”
“I’m too busy, I guess.” He didn’t want to settle down. “But I’m thrilled for you.”
“Thanks. I know you’re swamped, so I’ll leave you to it. Kayla will really appreciate any help you can give her. She didn’t mention she saw you when she came over for dinner yesterday.”
“Maybe she forgot?”Or she’s so pissed at me right now she’d like to forget.
“Nah, see, she’s not herself.” He heard the concern in Jack’s voice, and that put him on alert.
Not only was she running around town looking for a Dominant, but she was unhappy in her job too. She needed to find her way, and he was worried she’d make some reckless choices. He had the power to help her, but he’d turned her away. What choice did he have? He couldn’t do the things to her that she thought she wanted.
“You know how it is when you leave college. Big changes, and it’s scary. I think when she figures out what she wants in life she’ll be fine.”
“I’m sure.” Julian nodded. “Send my love to Caroline.”
“Will do. I’ll call you in a few days.” Jack ended the call, leaving Julian to sink in his own thoughts.
Well, this just got a whole lot more complicated.
