“Julian.” Kayla opened the office door, just as he was pulling Connie’s naked form, minus her stilettos, to an upright position. Her glowing smiling disappeared as she took in the scene before her. Absolute disgust disfigured her face.
Fucking fantastic!
“Perfect.” Connie laughed like some insane person. What exactly did she find amusing about any of this? “I don’t care if she plays too. If that’s what you’d like, Sir.”
“What the hell is this?” Kayla stared them both down.
“Not what it looks like.” He bent down, retrieved Connie’s dress, and threw it at her. “Get dressed now.”
“Fine.” Connie caught her dress. “It’s better that she walked in on us. Now you can explain to her that she can never be who you need.”
“What are you talking about?” All the color drained from Kayla’s rosy cheeks. “What does she mean?”
“She’s out of her mind.” He took a step toward Kayla, but she retreated.Hell no.
“What is she talking about?” she asked. “Have you confided in her about us?”
“I have no idea what she’s doing or saying,” he said. “She showed up here and took her clothes off.”
“Like it was that simple,” Connie said. “I’ve been thinking about you since that morning you dropped me off at my place. What happened between us.”
“What is she talking about?” Kayla demanded. “What happened?”
“Nothing,” he insisted. Why hadn’t he told her about that morning sooner?
“Well, if you call the fact that we almost kissed nothing then—”
“Get out.” He pointed to the door. “Put your clothes back on or I’ll throw you out in the hall naked. Do you understand?”
“Will that be my punishment?”
“You’re delusional.”
“No, you are,” Connie said as she slipped her dress back on. “There’s a reason you didn’t tell her about that morning. You could have, but you didn’t because you still crave what I can give you.”
“No.” He shook his head. “Kayla, don’t listen to her. I didn’t tell you because I know she’s your friend and I didn’t want to hurt you.”
“So, you did try to kiss her?” Doubt clouded her face. “How could you both be so cruel?”
“What? No! She threw herself at me. The same way she did tonight. She knew you were headed here. She told me. I don’t know what she’s up to, but I have nothing to do with it.”
“Then how did I end up naked and at your feet?” Connie asked. “Don’t play games.”
“Shut up!” he demanded.
“No, she needs to hear the truth.” Connie pointed at her. “I never thought you could handle him. He’s not boyfriend material. He wants more than you can ever comprehend. Did you think those things on his list of requirements would just disappear? That he could live a normal, vanilla life?”
“That’s what you think of me?” Kayla gritted her teeth. “You don’t think I’m worthy of him?”
“Stop this,” he said.
“He’s spent years becoming the man he is in the bedroom. The desires he craves, you’re just not capable of. I know you. He’s looking for more. I know he is.”
“Are you?” Kayla stared into his eyes. “Because I thought we were heading toward more.”
“How could you ask me that?” Anger took over. He couldn’t think straight. The situation she walked in on looked bad, but why didn’t she trust him? Why did she let Connie get inside her head?
“You were in here with her. She’s naked. You lied to me about her. Is that why you wanted me to stay away from her? So she couldn’t tell me what was going on between the two of you?”
