I stretch my bare legs out in front of me. “It’s not as if I want to cheer for Aycliffe, but I have no choice.”

“Do you miss your old school?”

I nod.

The team are doing power layups. Zayd is covered in a light sheen of sweat.

“I miss my friends and my cheer team.”

“You date the team captain, don’t you?”

“Yeah. Bennett.”

“How long have you been seeing each other?”

I finger the hem of my cheer skirt. “Two years.”

Her face lights up with a smile. “Wow.”

“How about you?”

She shakes her head. “No one.”

The boys have moved on to ball-handling circuits. I watch Zayd do a series of figure-eight drills. His level of skill is amazing! And his body…

“Legacy will kill you if you move in on him.”

I tear my gaze away and furrow my brows. “What?

“Zayd. You were checking him out.”

I scoff. “I wasn’t.”

“You totally were!” Her eyes sparkle with humor.

“I will deny it until my dying breath.”

Her smile is infectious. “It’s okay. All the girls do it. But Legacy is not someone you want to cross.”

Jacob, bored with the ball control drills, performs a long shot.

“I live with Zayd, so Legacy has it out for me anyway. Besides, I have a boyfriend,” I point out. “I’m not interested in anyone here.”

“I can’t believe Zayd is going to be your stepbrother.”

I roll my eyes, fed up with everyone calling him that. “Just because our parents are getting married doesn’t mean he will be my stepbrother. We’re not young kids growing up together.”

She shrugs. “Doesn’t matter. He’s still going to be your stepbrother. What’s it like living with him? Have you seen him naked yet?”

My mouth opens and closes. I start to laugh. “Why would I have seen him naked?”

“Any other girl would walk in on him randomly at all times of the day in the hopes of catching a glimpse.”

Zayd wipes the sweat off his forehead with the hem of his jersey. His abs tense deliciously.

“The difference between other girls and me is that I don’t want to see Zayd naked.”

“Bullshit!” she says with a laugh.
