Page 95 of Devil's Bargain

“I’m willing!” Josh hollers in the background.

“Girl talk, dude. No boys allowed.”

“Good thing I’m a man, sugar.”

I laugh as I rub my face. “I’m going to hang up now. Speak tomorrow?”

“You better fucking call me!”

“Will do. Have fun tonight.”

We disconnect the call, but it starts ringing before I can put the phone down.

I stare at the caller ID.

It’s Scott.

It rings out and starts back up again, so I power off my phone and throw it down in the footwell. I lie down on the passenger seat and place my hand beneath my cheek. I’m not cold, but it’s not warm either. This seemed like a good idea earlier when it was still light outside. Now, I feel trapped. I’m losing my home. I belong to two psychotic men who blackmail me into doing what they want. On top of that, I’m falling for the school’s star quarterback.

He's having sex with someone else at this very moment. The thought turns my stomach.

I don’t know how long I lie there, listening to the rain and wind before sleep finally takes me, but when it does, I breathe a deep sigh of relief and let it carry me away.
