Me: Let me have a small taste…
I’m distracted as I flick my gaze up from my phone. “I’m not turning soft!”
Jamie sinks further down into the beanbag, his long legs stretched out in front of him. “Have you fucked her?”
She’s not replied yet. “Huh?” I meet his curious eyes. “No, I haven’t fucked her.”
“Has she sucked your dick?”
“No!” I laugh as the screen goes dark. Still no reply.
Jamie stares at me. “But you have kissed her.”
I lean back, scratching my thumb over a small stain on my jeans. “What makes you say that?”
He shrugs, rubbing the back of his head. “You’re only the most loyal dog around. You wouldn’t be sitting at her feet, begging for scraps if you hadn’t at least kissed her.”
“Begging for scraps? Are you for real?” I chuckle disbelievingly as I shake my head.
Jamie winks. “You know I’m right!”
I do, but I would rather chop off my throwing arm than give him the satisfaction of admitting he’s right. I don’t know what it is about April that has me hooked, but something about her… I’m curious and want to find out more.
Jamie gets to his feet and stretches his arms overhead. “Come on, let’s go to mine. People will start showing up soon.”
I shove the phone in my front pocket and clasp Jamie’s outreached hand. Collecting my letterman jacket, I follow him outside. “You’re one to talk,” I say as I jog down the porch steps and walk to his car. “Hailey has turned you into a pussy!”
He scoffs, pressing the button on his car key. “We both know that’s a lie!”
“Is it?” I open the passenger door and get inside. Reaching for the seatbelt, I smirk. “When was the last time you fucked anyone besides Hailey?”
He looks over his shoulder as he reverses out. “Unlike you, I’ve fucked half the school.”
“Answer the question.”
He straightens up and gives me a brief glance before focusing back on the road. It’s not until we’re past the big gates that he says, “She’s ruining my street cred! People will think I’m turning into you!”
I ignore his jibe. “Before you know it, you’ll buy her roses and teddy bears for Valentine.”
The look of horror on his face makes a deep laugh rumble in my chest.
“It’ll be a cold day in hell before I buy any woman a fucking teddy bear!”
* * *
Still no reply. I can’t believe I’m staring at my fucking phone at a party.
I breathe out a sigh and prop my foot on the coffee table.
Jamie breaks away from Hailey’s lips and smacks her ass as she goes to get more drinks from the kitchen. “You should invite her!” he says to me.
I look away from a group of dancing cheerleaders in tiny dresses. “Who?”
“The girl you’ve spent the entire evening swooning over like some whipped fucker.”
“I haven’t swo—”
He cuts me off, “Don’t deny it. Did she not reply or something?”
