“Sorry, sir.”

He looks up from the paper in his hands and a slight smirk tugs on his lips. “Sir?”

Nina shoots me a confused look.

“Would you prefer a different title, sir?”

He shakes his head. His shirt hasn’t got a single wrinkle. He doesn’t look at all like he was up fucking me until the first rays of the morning sun.

“Open up your textbook. You have a lot to catch up on.”

“Sir?” Nina whispers next to me.

“He’s a teacher, isn’t he?”

She gives me a look. “Tell me one time you’ve called a teacher ‘sir’?”

A shadow falls over the desk. I meet Scott’s stormy eyes.

“Do you want detention?” He’s addressing us both, but his eyes are solely on me.

I cross my arms. “You know what? I think I do!” Fuck if I’m going to let him intimidate me.

Laughter erupts around the classroom, and Scott’s eyes fall to the bruise on my cheek and the marks on my neck.

“This classroom after school today.”

My mouth falls open. “But this isn’t detention.”

“I’ll personally handle your detention. There are some areas we need to address.”

“What about me?” Nina asks next to me. My blood is boiling.

“Nina, you’re in the detention hall,” Scott says over his shoulder as he makes his way back to the whiteboard.

I scoot my chair back and shoulder my bag. “You know what? I’m fucking fed up with this!”

I don’t look back as I leave the room and run through the empty hallways. I burst through the front doors. What is he going to do? Chase after me and cause a scene at school?

I break out in hysterical giggles at the thought, and root through my bag for my keys as I descend the steps. I don’t notice the white Porsche idling next to my car at first. Not until I insert my key into the door.

Rick isn’t looking at me. He’s scrolling through his phone.

I’m confused. This isn’t his regular parking spot—his is by the front of the building.

He glances up at me as if he knew I was here all along.

I debate what to do. No one is out here to witness this moment, but I can’t be careful enough. I open my door, drop into the driver’s seat, and take a steadying breath as I crank the engine.

It’s only when I’m on the main road that I look in the rearview mirror and spot his Porsche behind me. He’s driving one-handed, elbow on the open window.

I wring the steering wheel and focus back on the road. What am I doing? I’m already in trouble for my little show in the classroom. If they find out that I bunked off with Rick…

I take a left and drive down a country road with Rick following closely behind. I don’t know where I’m going.

My phone rings in the passenger seat. Looks like Josh won the bet after all. I couldn’t go all day with it switched off.

“Where the fuck are you?” Nina asks when the call connects.
