We reach Jared’s classroom.
Jamie pulls me to a stop, his eyes flicking between mine. “I’m waiting out here. Be careful!”
I don’t reply as I open the door and step through.
“Can I help you?” Jared asks, looking up from the sheet in front of him. Next to it is a stack of papers.
I close the classroom door behind me and drop my bag on the floor. My hair is still damp from the shower I had after practice. “I’m on to you!”
He stops writing and lifts his gaze. He puts the pen down, leans back in the seat, and eyes me. “What exactly are you referring to?”
I scoff as I walk up to the desk and plant my hands on the papers. “Stay away from April!”
He bursts out laughing. It goes on and on until I wish I could wrap my hands around his neck and make him shut up. “Or what?”
I’m surprised he admitted it so readily. “I’ll make you regret it!”
“You know what I think?” he says with a gloating smirk as he scoots the chair back and rounds the table. We’re matched in height. “I think you’re jealous.”
I fist my hands by my sides. It would be so easy to snap his neck!
“Do you like her bruises? I had a lot of fucking fun inflicting them.”
“You better shut the fuck up!”
He grins, and it’s a smile that makes me want to beat the smirk right off his face. “You should hear her beg for it!”
I punch him! My hand shoots out before I can think twice.
Jared collides with the desk, laughing maniacally, clutching his jaw.
Blood drips from a cut on his bottom lip. “You shouldn’t have done that!” He wipes his chin with his sleeve, then straightens back up and folds it until the blood is hidden.
“I’m going to ruin you!”
He chuckles again and gets in my face. “I’ll give her your regards as I fuck her extra hard tonight!”
I fight the urge to beat the shit out of him.
“You know,” he whispers, smoothing my lapels. “The harder you hit her, the louder she moans! Have you heard her whimper, Quarterback? It’s the sweetest sound!” He digs his phone out of his pocket and holds it up. “You want to hear it? I’ve got a video right here of my cock down her throat if you’re curious?”
“You’re fucking sick!” I growl, my hands fisted by my sides.
“No. The girl you’re in love with is! I simply indulge her fantasies.”
He pockets his phone as Jamie walks inside, eyeing us both carefully.
“Everything ok?”
Jared claps me on the shoulder. “Everything is good. Isn’t it, Rick? We were just talking about how Rick here needs to focus on football. He wouldn’t want anything to jeopardize his scholarship.”
I square my shoulders and step forward, but Jamie grasps my arm and pulls me back.
“He’s not fucking worth it! Come on, let’s go.”
“Stay away from April!” I growl at Jared, who winks as he sits down behind his desk.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
