“You're gonna see me Monday.” I laugh.
“I know,” he pouts. “But I hate being away from you for any amount of time. The summer just about killed me.”
My face softens, and I give him a small smile. I know how he feels because it’s how I felt too. “I’ll call and text you all weekend, okay?”
“Promise?”
“Yes.” I laugh.
“Stupid homework,” he mutters. “If I didn’t have to work on it with my partner, I’d just bring it here and spend more time with you.”
“You're gonna be fine.” I shake my head, my smile growing. “Get it done, and get good grades. Show those Pure Blood assholes just how amazing this demon can be.”
“Or, I can show you.” He gives me a smile that has me swooning and my knees buckling. It’s like now that we're officially mated, we can’t keep our hands off of each other. And I know it’s going to be the same way with Zed.
“Leo,” I breathe, and he pulls me closer, kissing me with a scorching heat. When we break apart, my heart is racing and my core is slick. He can smell me, his nostrils flaring.
“Yeah, I better get going, or I’m going to be rutting into you all weekend.” His voice is deep and husky.
Fuck.I like that idea, I like it a lot. Damn it, I need to go inside the house or I might just take him right here. What a lovely show for my dear old step-brother.
“I gotta go,” I squeak, quickly pressing the code for the gate. He lets out a chuckle and before I go inside, I snag a quick peck on the lips before dashing inside. “I love you,” I tell him between the bars, and he gives me a half smile.
“I love you too, Starbright.”
I take off down the driveway, holding onto Zed’s sweatpants so that they don’t fall off of me.
I’m all smiles as I enter the house, remembering last night and how amazing it was to be with Zed that way. To be with him how I craved him for weeks.
But it’s quickly wiped away as I close the door and nearly bump into three very large backs.
“Oh!” I say, taking a step back and looking up at them. “Sorry.”
They turn to look at me, taking in my outfit before looking at each other with a raised brow.
“Abby, honey,” my mother appears behind them, rushing over to me. “Where were you? We asked the boys, but they said they didn’t know.” She stops, her brows creasing as she takes in what I’m wearing. “What on Earth are you wearing?”
Is this really happening right now? It’s like doing the walk of shame in front of all of your family. Because I’m gonna say it’s safe to assume that these three guys are Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael.
“I was...” Do I lie and tell them I was at a friends? Why should I? The tall man with the black hair, who looks just like his sons, might be ashamed of Zed, but I’m not. “I was at my mate's house.”
My mother's eyes widen, and she takes a step back. “Your mate’s? Since when did you have a mate?”
I cock a brow at her. “Since I was sixteen.”
“What? How did I not know this?” she asks.Maybe because you’ve never actually tried to get to know me, and you were gone my whole life?
“One of my mates is Leo. I grew up with him. He’s here now, at the academy as a scholarship student.”
“Oh... wait, one of your mates?”
“Yes. I was at my other mate's house last night. I slept over.”
“And who might that be?” she asks. I don’t look at her when I answer, I look at the man who abandoned the one I fell in love with.
“His name is Zed Cross. He’s a dark angel and lives in Dark Night.”
Michael’s eyes widen, and my mother gasps. “No,” she says, making me bring my attention back to her. “No, you will not be with that boy. As a matter of fact you won’t be with either of those boys. No daughter of mine will be mated to ademon,” she spits the word. “And...” She thinks of what to say, looking up at her husband before looking back to me. “Not a dark angel.”
