Mark and I burst into laughter.

“Keep telling yourself that, Muff. I heard Catherine complaining about the extra chunk you’ve been sporting lately.”

Christ, Twilight had a death wish.

“Thefuck, man? Trust me, she ain’t been complaining when raking her nails over each rock-solid mount leading straight to m—”

“Okay, Penny, time for us to go,” I cut in, before Jackson divulged a little too much about his personal life.

Penny’s eyes hit mine and narrowed. “Spoilsport.”

I gave Mark and Jackson an exasperated look, only to receive amused snorts in return.

“Good to meet you, bro.” I held my hand out to Mark and hauled him in for a departing man-hug.

“You too, brother. After all, youarethe infamous Green Beret getting schooled by SEALs.”

I laughed and pushed back a step, extending both arms and pointing to Jackson and Mark simultaneously.

“Keep telling yourself that, Twilight. You boys have got a thing or two to learn yet.”

Jackson’s mouth quirked. “Fuck off already, Manbait. I’ll keep you posted.”

I sent him a super shitty salute, then led Penny to the door.

She held out her palm. “Keys.”

“Nope.”

“Give me my keys, Dante,” she demanded, hurrying to keep up with my long strides.

“I’m driving.”

“Stop treating me like a kid!”

I pulled up short by the hood of her car and held up my hands. “Whoa, where’s this coming from all of a sudden?”

“It’s not all of a sudden, Dante. Give me my keys and get in the car.”

“Not gonna happen.”

“Why are you being so controlling?”

“I’m not,” I stated flatly.

“You are. Now give.”

“No.”

“Yes!” she yelled at the top of her lungs.

Instincts kicked in. Emotions locked down. With excessive calm, I sucked in a deep breath and puffed my chest.

“No.”
