“Hey, I was shopping for two! Shit, my back is killing me now, though.” Jax groaned and leaned on the counter to stretch luxuriously.

My hands found her lower back of their own accord, automatically slipping into massage mode. Her body reacted to my touch, and she arched into my fingers as they gently dug into her flesh, just the way she liked.

Another moan escaped her mouth and made me smirk, then grin smugly at Darren. He glared before slamming his beer down and declaring it was time to unload the truck.

With J positioned on the couch for maximum comfort—feet up and cool drink in hand—I followed Darren and the girls outside.

“Shit! Callie wasn’t joking about J buying the entire shop.”

Darren pressed his hands to his hips and shook his head. “I’m legitimately shocked.”

“You and me both.” I dropped the tailgate, then handed him the first box. “Here, we’ll take the big shit last.”

After unloading two cots, a change table, a double stroller, two baby car seats, a breast pump, sheepskins, and a lot of other crap I hadn’t realised we needed, I was stunned into disbelief at the once-empty room that now resembled a retail outlet.

“Um. So, J?” I called tentatively while surveying the shit tonne of baby gear. “Just how much did you spend today, sweetheart?”

I steeled myself for a huge dollar figure to be thrown at me but heard nothing except silence then a snort from either Lozza or Callie.

Returning to the lounge, I found three sets of eyes glued to me and one avoiding me altogether. Folding my arms over my chest and leaning against the reclining chair, I awaited her answer. “Jax?”

She waved her hand and picked at an invisible piece of lint on her stomach. “We really don’t need to go into that right now.”

Callie and Lozza exchanged a look that indicated it was ashitloadof dollars.

“C’mon, if I’m going halves, I need to know, right? Callie and Loz already know, so spill.”

Lozza offered her pearls of wisdom. “Say it fast, J-dogg, like ripping off a Band-Aid.”

Jax huffed. “Fiiiiine. You wanna sit down?” She raised her brows and steeled her chin in defiance.

When I slowly shook my head, she puffed out a breath and gave it to me straight. “Around three thousand, four hundred dollars. Plus or minus a hundred or two.”

I think I may have passed out for a second.

“Three and a half grand!”Darren and I shouted at the same time, our eyes bulging out of our heads. The only difference was that he looked amused as fuck, whereas I’d bet my bottom dollar that I looked flabbergasted as fuck.

J gnawed on her lower lip and drew her brows together. If I wasn’t in a state of dismay right now, I would have chuckled at her looking so damn cute.

“Actually, it might be closer to three. And, it would have been more if I had bought the gorgeous leather feeding chair with a matching footstool that I fell in love with. But I deemed that too expensive, even for me,” she finished in a tone that could only be described as sorority.

“Shit! Who knew babies were so expensive?” Darren laughed from behind his hand.

I had the strong urge to punch the grin from his face. Smug bastard.

“Sweet bleeding mother of Mary, I need another drink,” I murmured, heading for the kitchen.

Daz roared with laughter while I left the room for more beer. Callie pointed a finger at him as I came back into the room.

“You wait until we have one; you’ll realise just how much it costs to set up a nursery.” She then turned her attention to me. “You know, all the stuff Jax bought was on special, so really, shesavedmoney. At least a grand, I’d say.”

“Oh yeah, ‘coz that makes it sound better,” I replied dryly.

Despite the huge hit to my wallet, I was thankful I hadn’t been dragged along shopping. Chicks dig that shit, guys didn’t.

“So, what else do we need to get, J?” I was apprehensive about hearing the answer.

“All the big stuff is done. It’s just clothes and day-to-day items we need now. Loz and Callie are gonna throw a baby shower in January and most people gift baby clothes.”
