When she smiled, I relaxed further. “Can you feel them moving yet?”

Her warm palm covered the back of my hand. “No, it’s much too early. I might be able to in another eight weeks. You should be able to feel them around then too.”

That thought ignited something within me. I had a sudden desire to skip forward eight weeks to experience it right now.

Jax blew out a big breath and shook her head. “Twins though…”

“I know, sweetheart. It feels like a bitch-slap from karma. We could have at least had a few more tries to make them, right?” I chuckled and was happy when I heard her scoff.

A cute as fuck flush spread across her face and the temperature beneath the covers increased a few degrees.

Jax groaned behind her hand. “I was such a mess that night.”

I laughed quietly. “You’re horny as hell when you’ve been drinking.”

“Hypocrite,” she sassed.

I couldn’t help but smirk. “Trust me, sweetheart, it’s not just when I’ve been drinking.”

“Jace!” Her hand left mine and jabbed me in the ribs.

Sobering quickly, I laid it all on the line for her. “For what it’s worth, I’m incredibly thankful your bleeding was only a scare.” My eyes drifted back to the scan prints.

Both of J’s hands returned to her stomach, resting over the top of my single one. Her whisper was like a secret confession. “For what it’s worth, Jace, thank you. For everything.”

I rose above her and pressed a kiss to her forehead. “I’m the one who should be thanking you. I… uh…” The words ‘I love you’ dried on my tongue. Instead, I licked my lower lip and handed her the strip of prints. “Goodnight, sweetheart.”

“Goodnight,” she murmured and put the prints next to her cracker stash on the bedside table, then flicked off the lamp.

Plunged into darkness, I chuckled to myself as the bed rocked as she tried to get comfortable. After a few minutes of huffing and throwing herself about the bed, I extended an arm and smiled when she immediately slid against my body.

Her head resting on my chest felt so goddamn good, like she was created specifically to fit with me. Eventually her breathing slowed, and her body relaxed, and she fell asleep in my arms for the second time since I’d been back in town.

SEVENTEEN

JAX

Jace’s scent drilled into my subconscious through the depths of sleep, and I woke with a deep inhale. My fingers brushed along the warm skin of his torso, then paused when I remembered he went to bed wearing a top.

Curiosity had my hand drifting lower until it hovered just above where the waistband of his boxer briefs should sit. I had to confirm if he was still wearing underwear. Or not.

“Touch the tiger and you’ll get bit, sweetheart.”

A scream left my chest, and I jolted. The creeping nausea was momentarily forgotten as I pressed a hand to my chest and panted. “Shit, you scared me! How long have you been awake?”

Jace’s chest vibrated as he chuckled, the sound deep and gravelly from sleep. “Long enough to know you inhale deeply right before you wake up.”

Oh my freaking god, that’s embarrassing!

“Whatever,” I mumbled. “You snore, by the way. Loudly.”

“I was making furniture in my sleep,” he countered, eyes still closed.

I scoffed while snatching up a cracker, and bit off a corner. My eyes landed on the three prints of our babies. I still couldn’t believe it. Though now it made sense why my morning sickness had been off the charts. I carefully lifted the images and lay on my side facing Jace.

“Fuck, J, are you doing that on purpose?” he grumbled and shuffled away from me a little.

“What?”
