“I already told you that. Next question.” I smirk when his top lip lifts in a snarl at my response.

“Were we on your radar when you showed up undercover at the club?” Ace growls, slamming his clenched fist hard enough onto the table to nearly shatter it.

This man likes to make it seem like he has all the control in the world, but from everything I’ve seen, he’s barely holding on by a thread at all times.

“No.” I say, trying to piss him off more with my short answer. You should never try to piss off a psycho that wants to kill you, but I can’t help it. I’m a sucker for pain.

He narrows his eyes. “I don’t believe you.”

“Well, Acey,” I tease, bending forward and leaning my elbows on the tabletop. “You better believe it. Actually, this is all your fault. You weren’t on my radar, until you put yourselves there. You got so insecure that you ruined everything yourself.”

I laugh, watching Ace’s anger rise. His face turns a bright red and a vein in his forehead pops out, but that doesn’t beat the murderous look in his eyes.

“Shut the hell up,” he yells.

I lick my lips, giving him a sweet smile. “Ace Lennox fucked up and now he doesn’t know how to fix it.”

He jumps up from his chair, quickly wrapping his hand around my throat, pulling me to my feet. His grip tightens, cutting off my air. I’ve been in this position with him before, but this is different.

There’s no underlying lust this time. He’s staring at me with pure fury and rage.

He’s going to kill me.

I pushed him too far.

“Ace!” Blais roars.

But he’s not the one that stops him from killing me. Theon rushes toward Ace on the other side of the table, pushing him back so he falls on his ass. Ace’s grip on my neck releases and I plop back down in my seat when he lets me go, gasping, trying to take in as much air as I can.

Blais kneels beside me, his hands gently rubbing over my bruised neck, looking at me with worry. I glance at him, nodding to let him know I’m okay. My heart flutters at his kind gesture, knowing he’s defying his brother for me.

My eyes fall back to Theon though. His large body is standing above Ace, staring down at him in rage. His chest is heavily rising up and down and his teeth are showing under his snarl.

I’m so fascinated and confused with Theon.

He barely talks, and when he does, he’s being an ass. He’s tortured me. He’s always been on Ace’s side, not mine.

But today, he’s been different. Actually he’s been different since after the pool incident.

Earlier, he tried to soothe me by putting his hands on my thigh and back. Then in the hall, he pulled me out of my panic and softly brushed the hair from my face. Now, this.

He’s actively going against Ace right now.

What the hell?

Am I getting to him too?

I might be cracking Blais and Theon, but Ace—he’s the wild card.

Ace is going to lose his shit and kill her soon if she doesn’t get rid of the attitude and start talking.

He hasn’t been himself since she’s been here. The man is always rigid, but he typically has this meticulous, cool demeanor set in place, never being disrupted. I haven’t seen him this out of control since Allie was a teen. He was always a loose cannon around that time trying to protect her from the outside world. He’s the same way now around Zamira, but instead of trying to protect her, he’s trying to destroy her.

He’s supposed to stay with her tonight, but I’m not sure that’s a good idea, based on the little show he just put on. There’s no doubt in my mind he would’ve killed her if I hadn’t stepped in. The man is confusing at best. One minute it looks like he wants her, the next it looks like he wants to kill her. I guess I can’t blame him; she is infuriating.

Her back is stiff as she sits in the chair, an easy indication of how nervous she is. I don’t think she expected Ace to go that far, at least not right now anyway. Her breathing still hasn’t calmed and her hands are clenched so hard on the sides of the chair her knuckles are white.

The mental whiplash she’s got to be suffering from is enough to make a normal person crazy. Blais fucked her. Ace has been fucking with her mind since she’s been here, and now he just tried to kill heragain. I can’t even say I haven’t been confusing, torn between wanting to know more about her and wanting to get rid of her. However, she’s anything but normal. I honestly think she enjoys it.
