front door and taken off. She’d parked and offered to come

inside, at least to get Quinn checked in. She didn’t fly often

and it was nice having the support and Danica’s navigational

skills to get them through the airport.

Danica tugged on Quinn’s arm. “We’re cutting it close as

is. We really need to find the counter where you need to check

in. I’ll get them to give you directions to the gate. Don’t worry.

Everything’s going to be fine. Planes are perfectly safe-”

 “It’s not that.”

“What then?” Danica blinked her slightly red rimmed eyes.

She looked like she hadn’t fully woken up yet.

Quinn wanted to think that maybe that was her problem

too, but she knew the early hour had nothing to do with it.

“Quinn? Are you okay? What’s wrong?” Danica took

Quinn’s arm and tugged her away from the middle of the way,

where people were trying to dodge and step around them. Over

by the wall no one would run them over at least.

“It’s- I- it’s just that…” Danica waited, even though she

was obviously stressed about Quinn missing her flight. “It’s

just that I don’t know if there’s any point to this,” Quinn said

 in a rush.

 “Any point?”

 “Yeah. Any point.”

“I’m sorry, I don’t know what that means. Any point to

 what?”

“Any point to any of it.” Quinn grabbed her bag’s handle.

She clenched her hand around it tightly and watched as her

knuckles and the veins in the back of her hand flexed and

 stood out.

“I think it’s just early and you need a cup of coffee.”
