something, she really didn’t want to know. She’d had just about all she

 could handle.

Adriana worked part time at the events center, and she’d gone out on a

limb to get Taylor some casual work. After a week of pounding the

pavement to hand out resumes the old-fashioned way and sitting down at

her beat up laptop to fire them off in the rest of her free time, it seemed like

a lucky break. She was more than willing to call the sitter th

 at Adriana and

Juliana used for Joseph. Stephanie was friendly and loved kids. Taylor

hadn’t been at all worried about leaving Chloe with the sixteen-year-old for

 just a few hours.

The benefit had been going just fine. Adriana was even there, though

she wasn’t serving drinks. Taylor did have experience with waitressing, and

she had a great memory. She wanted to make sure that Adriana wasn’t sorry

for talking to her boss and getting Taylor a position. She’d been so careful

all evening. She’d even made a small amount of money in tips. Everything

was fine until she’d tripped over the chair that was shoved back just a little

too far from that table and spilled seven drinks all over the place. Well,

mostly all over that guy, who wasn’t at all pleased about it. Taylor hated

that she’d frozen up and all she could do was mumble about dry cleaning

and rush out of the room.

I should have handled it better. Said something to defuse the guy’s

anger. Maybe I could still have salvaged the situation.

If that were the truth, she wasn’t sure how she could have gone

about it any better. It didn’t help that the guy was a huge jerk. Taylor

recalled that some of the people staring at her during the incident looked

sorry for her. There had been a woman a few tables over, whose frosty blue

eyes looked somewhat sympathetic. She had been unearthly style gorgeous

and even now, that flash of blue eyes and that rich, raven hair stayed with

 Taylor.
