noted Taylor’s familiar handwriting from the list she’d given her two days

 before.

Chloe woke up early. I didn’t want to bother you while you were

sleeping so I’m driving us home. I’ll see you at work. Also, my friends

texted me late last night. Juliana is taking the day off work and Adriana has

to be off for a couple of days. They said they really wouldn’t mind watching

Chloe at all, so I’m going to take her there.

P.S. Thank you for last night

Christina winced after reading the note. She wasn’t sure if Taylor felt

awkward writing it or not. Did she really just not want to disturb her or

mess up her morning routine? Was Chloe hungry and Taylor hadn’t wanted

to go digging in someone else’s fridge and cupboards? Did she just feel

awkward staying over at someone else’s house?

Or was it worse than that? Had Taylor purposely woken up early so that

she didn’t have to face Christina? Did she feel awkward or regret what

happened? Did she not know what to say? Did she really want to see her at

work? What did she mean by her thank you? Was she thanking Christina for

opening up her house and for looking after Chloe or was she thanking her

for everything that happened after? It felt strange to be thanked for

 something like that.

Christina set the note down and poured herself a glass of orange juice.

She pulled out one of the stools at the island and sunk down. She sat there,

her mind already skipping ahead to how possibly awkward it could be to

work with Taylor now. Christina had never got involved with a co-worker

before because that was across the professional line. She could just imagine

what her father would say if he knew, but that grossed her out, thinking

about her dad knowing anything about her love life. She knew for certain

that her father didn’t allow romantic relationships at his company. He

thought it made a mess of things and caused drama in the workplace and for

once, she had to agree with him. She was already sweating thinking about
