Aaron nods at him.

“Hey, A. Marisol, you look really pretty.”

She smiles happily, then turns and beams at Aaron, totally smitten by him. “Thanks, Rae. You do too.”

Aaron gives me a look of disbelief, so I give him a sassy glare back. But then I soften and say, “Well, we’ve only had appetizers so far, but the food is amazing. Hope you guys have an awesome night.” I give them a big smile, but I focus it on Marisol.

Aaron sees what I’m doing and visibly softens.

“Thanks, you guys too,” Marisol says with a big smile.

“Yeah, you guys too,” Aaron says slowly.

Then, thankfully, they’re on their way to their table again.

I turn my attention back to Davey. I still have one arm around his neck. I slide the other down his chest, then lean in and give him a hot kiss. Then I keep kissing him until our food comes.

The rest of the date was equally great. We got desserts from a fancy dessert bar, then went for a walk by the river, where we shared a rom-com style kiss under a streetlight.

He brought me home, and I let him up on the back deck, where we made out for a solid hour before we finally said goodnight after making plans to spend the day together tomorrow.

As I took off my makeup, I filled Sarah in on the date. She was squealing with excitement about him asking me to be his girlfriend. And she was as stunned as I was that we ran into Aaron.

Now I’m lying in bed reliving every sweet, sexy, and swoonworthy moment. I have butterflies in my stomach, and I keep giggling to myself.

A knock at the window pulls me back to reality. I unlock it, and the window immediately slides open. Aaron climbs through and stares at me expectantly.

Shit.

Why do I feel like this is not going to be an easy conversation?

“Hey,” I say, “how was your date?”

He slams the window shut like he’s mad at it and not me.

Even though he has no right to be mad at me.

“So, Monday you weren’t sure if you wanted to date him, and today, he’s your boyfriend?”

“Yep. It’s amazing what happens when you spend time getting to know someone and learn about them. You can connect with them and feel things for them and want to date them.Crazy,” I say with an eye roll.

“You’ve spent time with him?”

“Every night this week. Tonight was our first official date, but we’ve hung out every night and texted during the day. Not that I owe you an explanation.”

“Hell yeah, you do. You’ve been lying to us all week,” he growls.

I squint at him.

“No. I haven’t said anything because I didn’t want your opinions.”

“You lied to me earlier tonight.”

I shrug. “Forgive me for not wanting to hear you go off about Davey yet again.”

He shakes his head. “You don’t want to hear the truth.”

“What truth? What you think you know from spending twenty minutes a day with him in the locker room during baseball season?” I demand.
