Leo smiled as she wiped at her face, clearing away the remaining tears, “You’re my sister, Maya. You’ll always be my sister no matter what pack you change with on the full moons. You know that, right?”
She nodded and Leo chucked her jaw playfully.
“Good. Now dry those tears up. This is a party after all.”
Leo moved back and Darius leaned in to give her a hug and a few words of encouragement. He shook Zander’s hand and then slapped him on the back and offered to get him a beer. Zander glanced at her, the question of if she was okay and if it was okay for him to go with her brothers floating between them unspoken and she nodded. He leaned down and kissed her cheek before following the rest of the men towards a cooler set up in the shade.
Maya wiped at her cheeks again as Luna hugged her and welcomed her to the pack. Zoey hugged her again as well and then squeaked something about getting the girls out of the tree before Rafe saw them and cut the thing down. She raced away leaving Maya with only her two sisters and she sniffed as she opened her arms up to Nova for a hug.
Nova ducked in and hugged her tight, “I’m so happy for you.”
“Thank you.” Maya squeezed her before letting go, “But I have something I need to say to you.”
Nova raised a dark eyebrow.
“I’m sorry.” Maya spoke and both of Nova’s eyebrows hit her hairline. “I’m so sorry that I refused to listen to you all these years. I’m sorry that I ignored your visions and dismissed them and you. You deserved better, especially from me. You deserved to be heard and believed and I want you to know that it wasn’t you, it was never you. I was the one that didn’t want to face your visions because I always knew you were right.”
Nova exchanged a glance with Luna before looking back at her, “I’m sorry, did you just say I was right?”
“You heard me.” Maya snorted.
“I did, but I may need it in writing.” Nova teased and Luna laughed with them.
“You were right about everything. You always have been. I was just too scared to admit it but that night Zander knocked on our door, you were right.”
“About him being your fated mate? Yeah, I know.” Nova shrugged.
“About so much more than that. You told me it was all going to be okay and you were right. Just look around, we’re here just like your vision said we would be.”
Nova frowned, “Uh… not to stop the whole, I’m always right thing we have going but… this isn’t what I saw.”
Maya tilted her head, “It wasn’t?”
“Nope.” Nova grinned.
“Well what did you see then? What did your visions show you that made you so certain everything was going to work out for me, for us?”
“Oh, I can’t tell you that.” Nova’s grin split open wide. “You don’t want to ruin the surprise of your future, do you?”
“Nova…” she growled a warning though she couldn’t keep the laughter out of her voice. “That whole keep your visions to yourself stuff is over. This is a new beginning. Now tell me what you saw.”
“Sorry. Can’t.” Nova smirked, turning to walk away and Maya exchanged a glance with Luna, both of them cracking into wide smiles before they chased after her, begging to know what came next.
Later in the day, still blind to whatever future Nova had seen for all of them, Maya sat curled in Zander’s lap, surrounded by her family and felt completely at peace. She’d meant what she told her sister earlier. It was the end of an era. No more downplaying or ignoring Nova’s visions but also no more hiding her feelings or keeping people at arm’s length. She had woken up today as a new wolf, a new member of the Moirae Pack. Her time as a Crescent wolf was over. Her days spent bouncing between her siblings, trying to find where she belonged were behind her. Because now she knew exactly where she belonged and it was right here, with Zander, her fated mate and her family, both by blood and marriage and choice.
And whatever fate had in store for them next they would face it together, because that’s what family did.
Epilogue
“This is what I saw.”
Maya picked up the nearest object she could reach, which turned out to be the large glass of ice chips she’d only just had Luna refill for her, and hurled it at her sister with every ounce of strength left in her body. Nova’s eyes went wide as the glass hurtled towards her and Maya smugly wanted to scream that she bet her sister hadn’t seen that coming. Unfortunately, Zander had because he stepped in front of Nova, easily catching the glass before it could do any damage and then shaking his head at her.
“We talked about this, Maya. You can’t throw things at people just because you’re in pain.” he said all soft and smooth, the way he’d been talking to her all day, and it made her want to rip his face off.
She snarled at her mate, “Don’t talk to me like I’m a child.”
“I’m just trying to remind you that staying calm is the best thing for you right now.”
