“No, I am not putting up with shitty alphas ever again. If you want something, then give me your order. But if you only came here to antagonise me, then leave.”

“I’ll get you sacked.”

“You already got me demoted. I have no reason to stay here anymore, so do your best.”

“I’ll ruin you. I’ll make sure you never get employed by anyone in the city.”

“You mean your father will do that for you,” I hissed. “Maybe I could sell my story to the tabloids.” I tapped the pen against my chin. “Oh, what would the headline be? Son of prominent mayor and future Tory MP is...”

“Isla,” he barked.

“Leave me alone and I will leave you alone,” I whisper-yelled at him.

“Did you go into heat?” he asked. His eyes firmly rooted to my face.

“None of your business,” I hissed. “Now, what can I get you?”

He rose to his full six-three height, dominating me like he liked to do. He stepped one foot closer to me. Taking my shaky hand in his and rubbing his thumb over my palm. “Isla, I’m sorry about Rylan. Marry me and I’ll finish with him. Being away from you made me realise it’s you I want, not him.”

I laughed and shook my head. “Why are you so determined to get married?”

“I wanted a child to wed parents.”

“So where would Rylan have fit into this plan of yours had I not realised before the wedding? And why didn’t you tell me about him or introduce me to him? I would have been happy with a pack.”

“We could still be together as a pack. Small but still a pack,” he whispered. “We can make it work.”

I shook my head and pulled my hand away from his. “No. You never tried, never introduced me. And I know he knew about me, but I didn’t know about him. Why is that?”

Noah’s tongue poked out of his mouth and licked over his lip before his teeth grazed over the edge. It wasn’t provocative in any way. He was nervous. But why?

I was more nervous than him as he stared at me. Breathe in… Breathe out… My chest was rising and falling as I tried to slow my racing heart and focus. Certainly not get caught up in whatever he was trying to do.

Suddenly, the ping of the kitchen bell took me out of his gaze. “I’ll come back,” I said, turning and rushing away.

I glanced at the table number for the food order and took the two plates of hot food. My stomach grumbled. I hardly ate anything since I returned. I couldn’t, my appetite was none existent, until now.

“Hello, I have a lasagne and seafood linguine,” I said at table four, because I didn’t take the order.

“Mine is the seafood,” the lady said.

I placed the food in front of the customers. “Enjoy your meals,” I said with a smile and turned to see Noah had sat in his seat again. I strolled back to him.

“Do you know how upsetting finding out the man you were going to marry was only marrying you because his father wanted to hide his son’s sexuality because of a stupid political campaign?” I said, stopping next to him at the table.

“It wasn’t only that,” he whispered, “I wanted to marry you. I’m bi. I wanted you both.”

“But you are still keeping a secret from me, aren’t you?” I asked, tapping the notepad and waiting.

“I don’t know what you mean?” he answered.

“Does he live with you?” I asked.

Noah pushed his tongue under his upper lip, closed his eyes, and sighed. He nodded.

“So you asked your lover to move in with you, but I had to wait until we were married. Was I really going to be moving in with you?”

“I prepared one side of the house for you and the children.”

I laughed, shaking my head. It all made so much sense. “Oh my god, you and Rylan are living on one side of the house and I was going to be living separately from you. You had no intentions of me being with Rylan or me getting to know him.”

He shook his head. “It would never work.”

“Sorry, you mean you didn’t want it to work? Because you wanted it all to yourself,” I hissed.

“No. Because two omegas too close together in the same house, with the same alpha, would never work,” he said.
