My parents were going to have heart attacks. Maybe Noah too. It wasn’t the dress he picked.
The lace dress flowed to the floor, and pearls detailed to the top. The same design as my short veil.
“Best man alert,” Freya said, taking Luna’s place at the window. “Nice.”
I grasped the sides of my dress, picking it up and wandered to the window.
“He’s gone again,” she said. “But it’s time for me to leave and let the sexy thing know there’s an omega waiting for an alpha.”
“Freya, just because he is Noah’s friend, doesn’t make him an alpha.”
“He was an alpha, I can tell,” she said. “See you down there. Dad is waiting in the bar with a whiskey.”
“He’ll be drunk before I get there.” I rubbed my hand over my sweaty brow. My skin sizzled. It seemed Noah had planned this heat better than I ever could, but then he had tried to plan it down to the wedding night and not the honeymoon.
“See you soon, sis,” Luna said at the door.
Freya walked to me and kissed my cheek, lingering over my ear as she considered what to say, and then she surprised me when she whispered, “You don’t have to do this. I was always so proud that you always did things your way.”
I gasped, but Luna pulled Freya away. “We need to go.”
Carmel came toward me with the largest hairspray bottle. I shook my head and wandered to the window again and glanced outside to the wedding party.
You don’t have to do this.
But this was my way of getting my dream, being a mother and holding my baby. I’d been jealous of Tilly and her growing family, and now I wanted one of my own.
I stood and stared out of the window, seeing the guests, including my mother, taking their seats—the time got closer and my nerves were fraying.
The band played gentle music as Noah walked to the vicar at the front.
I spun away and took my ivory silk shoes from the box, gliding my feet into the beautiful high heels.
“You look beautiful,” Carmel said. Tears laced my eyes as I stared at her face. “But you don’t want to do this, do you?” she whispered.
I shrugged my shoulders and strode to the window again. Seeing all the guests seated, I looked for Tilly. She was sitting with her alphas and her daughters. Aiden was my page boy. He would now be with my sisters as he was taking care of the rings.
I looked at Noah again as he chatted to his best man, he smiled before he brushed something off the other man’s shoulder and leaned closer. The other man turned slightly my way, and I tilted my head and my stomach clenched, and slapped my hand on my chest.
My heart beat wildly and my blood rushed around my veins. And I didn't know how long I stared open-mouthed at the man who called my future husband, ‘babe.’ But I couldn't stop looking.
“No,” I finally whispered to Carmel.
She gasped, and I knew she wished she hadn’t asked.
I rushed to the safe in the living room of the suite and took out my passport and the tickets for the flight and hotel rooms. I stared at Noah’s passport and grabbed it, too. Ensuring he couldn’t follow me on my ruined honeymoon.
He probably never wanted to go anyway and wouldn’t follow me, but I wasn’t taking the risk.
“Will you help me get out of here?” I asked Carmel.
She looked petrified as she wrung her hands together.
“Please, nobody will know. We’ll go down the staircase that goes directly to the car park.”
“Okay, I hate it when alphas take advantage of omegas and I can see this is a case of exactly that. I could tell the moment I got here that you weren’t happy,” she said, and I smiled. “Where’s your suitcase?”
“I’ll get it.”
