His throat bobs, her confession so honest it knocks him off-balance.
Her lips hitch up. “Word of warning, though—see how calm I am when you’re driving me to the airport in two weeks.”
The beat in his chest speeds up at the thought of her leaving. He had overheard the conversation between Griff, Lacey, and Sal earlier. Lacey moving to Nashville—he’s got hope for that. Hell, he wants that with every fiber of his being. Still, it’s gotta be her decision. He won’t push.
He strokes a thumb across her lip, thumbing it out into an adorable pout. “We’ll figure somethin’ out.”
He means it. He knows they haven’t talked about what comes next after this. But what he does know is that he wants more than this vacation, more than the memory of LA.
Lacey’s smile breaks into a yawn. She closes her eyes, snuggling into him. “Don’t let me fall asleep here ...”
Seth places a protective palm on her waist. His own eyes grow heavy. He should wake her, but he can’t stand to tear her beautiful body from his arms. The absence of Lacey is like the absence of air. He learned that this afternoon, far apart, far from each other.
When he falls asleep beside her, he’s thinking about the one fact he already knows: the future. He wants that with Lacey.
