Page 84 of That Feeling

The doctor smiles and removes the instrument, stepping out with Betty to let me get dressed.

“Nine weeks,” I repeat in disbelief as Tyler helps me sit up.

“And to think you had no idea. Crazy.”

I nod. “I also think we need to get this wedding planned ASAP, or I’ll be waddling down the aisle.” I glance at the clock on the wall. “Oh shit, I need to get over to the office right away. Can you drop me off? I don’t want to have to go all the way home to get my car.”

Tyler helps me off the table, continuing to hold my elbow as I walk over to the chair where my clothes are.

“What’s going on? What is this?” I say, looking down at his hand.

“Nothing, just assisting you. Yeah, I’ll take you to the office now. You need anything? You sure you’ll be okay all day?”

I let out a long breath. “Babe, you’re not starting in on the overprotective worry stuff this early. We had a deal.”

“To Brooklyn and Tyler!I still can’t believe we’re blessed to call this amazing young woman our future daughter-in-law.”

Everyone cheers and raises a glass in a toast to us. I smile sweetly at Celeste as she gives a toast and I will myself not to cry. Even though I didn’t have many initial pregnancy symptoms, it’s like as soon as I got the official confirmation from the doctor, I’ve been a horny, hungry emotional wreck. God bless Tyler for dealing with it, because we’ve got a long way to go.

“I gotta say, I like that she put my name first in that toast,” I lean toward Tyler and whisper in his ear. “She recognizes the power dynamic here.” I motion between us.

Tyler’s eyes instantly grow dark as he listens to me, and his eyes find mine as he leans in closer. “Should I tell her that I had you begging me to fuck you not two hours ago?” He tips my chin to face him, his lips a centimeter from mine. “Or how you’re so eager to fall on your knees and part those cherry red lips every time my cock’s out?”

One thing about Tyler is whenever I try to play fun, flirty games with him, he always wins. I don’t let him see that I’m quivering in my seat. Instead, I shrug and play coy. “Don’t be gross, Tyler. That’s your mom. You really think it’s appropriate to share that kind of info with her?”

He laughs. “Sweetheart, you clearly must not remember who I am, because I’ll grab that microphone out of my mom’s hands so fast and tell every motherfucker in this place that I can make you come by fucking your ass. Or do you need a reminder?”

My face feels like it’s on fire. I smack his arm and look around to make sure nobody heard. “Behave!”

“Why? Frustrated?” He reaches beneath the table and runs his hand up my dress to my upper thigh, the warmth of his hand threatening to burn through my flesh.

I’m about to grab his shirt and haul his sexy ass to the bathroom when I hear someone say my name. I look up and see Dolly heading toward me with Amelia.

“Oh, good! Dolly came and she brought Amelia.”

Tyler looks up. “This should be fun. Better hope Trent doesn’t see her.”

“Oh shit! Must be pregnancy brain. I completely forgot he doesn’t like her.” I glance around the room trying to spot him, but he’s nowhere to be found.

“Don’t worry about it, baby. I’ll go distract him. He’s probably already drunk out back with Ranger and Decker.” He gives me a quick kiss and heads out to find Trent while I socialize with my friends.

The party is a blast. Celeste threw it in an empty barn they tend to use for events like this. It’s tastefully decorated with flowers and candles—exactly how I’d want it to be decorated for our wedding.

“Celeste, thank you so much,” I say, pulling her in for a hug. “Honesty, this is just wonderful. My parents were sad they couldn’t make it, but they will be out here for the wedding.”

“Oh, no thanks necessary. We’re just so happy Tyler found you. He mentioned you two are thinking of June?”

“Yes, I know, it’s only three months away, but we both want something small and simple anyway. Just family and a few close friends.”

“I think that’s best. That’s what Drake and I did, you know.”

I open my mouth to respond when I hear shouting. Confused, Celeste and I both turn around to see a very tipsy Trent pointing a finger in Amelia’s face.

“The fuck are you doing here?” he shouts.

I can’t hear what Amelia says since she isn’t shouting back. I scurry over and Tyler is grabbing Trent by the shoulders, trying to redirect him outside, but he jerks his arms away.

“No! This bitch has no business being here. Tell them what you’re planning to do,” he shouts louder this time.

I feel mortified. “Amelia, I’m so sorry,” I try to apologize, but she just holds up her hand.

“I’m not trying to do anything, Trent. I’m simply here to celebrate Brooklyn’s engagement. I’m happy to discuss business matters another time, in a professional setting.”

She keeps her calm, which only seems to enrage Trent more.

“Bravo,”he claps dramatically. “So professional. You might think you’re going to prove something here by taking the high road, but my family sees right through your bullshit. We know what you’re going to do. We know what you’ve done throughout Idaho and California.”
