All at once, I let the climax consume with a heavy gasp. My body wanted to slump against Vlad. The pleasure longed to bring me to my knees, but Vladimir held me there and offered me his strength and stability. When I found myself delirious and spent, he was the one who made sure my skin was scrubbed clean. My skin was cool, soft, and smelling of his sandalwood and citrus soap.
I didn’t mind it one bit.
In his king-sized, I let my naked frame curl up against his. My arm draped over his chest, and I savored the feeling.
“I’m going to have a hard time leaving this bed,” I realized, my voice growing sleepy and soft.
“Then, let’s call in sick,” he half-joked.
“We can’t. You know that.”
If I tried that once, it would be too tempting to try again.
“I guess you’ll just have to come back then,” Vlad mused. “I could even make space in a drawer, if you like.”
My eyes opened, and lifting my head, I found his gaze through the darkness. Ambient city light let me find his unrelenting gaze as his hand found my cheek.
“I know it’s only been about a month,” I murmured hesitantly. “It’s okay if you’re not ready, but do you want to see how far this can go? Do you want to see what kind of life we can build like this?”
Vlad brushed back my damp, combed curls, and I could make out a soft smile.
“I’ll always want you to be in my life,” he promised. “As long as it makes you happy, you will always be welcome in this bed, no matter what that means.”
“We can make our own rules. We can be as happy as we like.”
“Sounds perfect.”
With one final kiss, I fell asleep in Vladimir’s arms that night. I woke up to his early alarm, telling him to go workout, but he pressed snooze. I figured I was worth skipping one morning workout, and dammit, if I didn’t make it worth his while. I let my hands pull back the covers as my mouth wandered down his chest. Before my morning alarm ever went off, I finished working Vlad over and swallowing his release with a smile.
“Hell of a way to start the day,” I teased, wiping the corners of my mouth with my thumb.
His tone dark and ragged, Vlad groaned. “I would say so.”
I couldn’t remember when I had such a pleasant morning before work. It wasn’t quite like those languid and easy days I spent with Caleb. It was passionate, and Vlad let his touch wander where it liked. By eight o’clock, we were pulling up to campus, and I began to recall a suggestion Meara made.
“If your job is standing between you and happily ever after, change it.”
Our morning together was fun, but how long could I let the lines between personal and professional get blurred. If I wanted to build a long-term relationship with Caleb and Vlad, how could we all work together at the university without some kind of issue arising? As we passed the Human Resources building to reach Vlad’s parking garage, I began to think there were more choices to be made than the commitment between me and these men. Even as I let Vlad kiss me goodbye at the car, I started to wonder when such affection might cause me trouble.
That’s when, of all people, I noticed Warren getting out of his car. It was like fate was dealing me one hand after another, but I knew I needed to face him.
I made him a promise. I wouldn’t forget.
“Hey, Warren,” I greeted him with a hesitant smile. “It’s been a little while.”
“A week or two, yeah,” he agreed.
“So… how would you feel about making up for that over some coffee?”
Warren’s eyes sparked with a knowing look, and I knew I was sealing my fate. For so long, I had dreamed about a life like this. I wasn’t going to let it get away from me so easily. I was going to claim my happiness, no matter what it took, and I silently hoped that Warren could be a part of it.
