“I’d think very carefully about what you’re about to do.” Myra’s voice went cold. “You don’t want to be arrested for assaulting a cop, do you?”

Elena faltered.

“What?”

“If you knew about Lee’s job as a baker, you would know that half of his family are cops. It’s not exactly a secret.” Myra pushed herself off the counter. “Now, are you going to leave peacefully? Or am I going to have to escort you out? I can make a lot of noise about it, so think about it very carefully. I may be off-duty, but I can be on-duty the moment you start causing trouble. You have been refused service, which Lee is within his rights to do, and now you have to leave.”

“No!”

Lee tried not to laugh at the way Elena was behaving. She looked moments away from stomping her foot like a little girl. At least Nick had the small decency to look embarrassed, while Elena was about to throw a fit.

He was distracted by the bell over the door tinkling again. Lee looked past Nick, prepared to focus on the new customer, only to freeze when he saw Daisy coming through the door.
