“Customers? What could you want from me?”
“How about a big cake? Chocolate fudge with white fondant icing.” Elena looked up at Nick, who smiled down at her. “And with the words saying ‘congratulations on your engagement’.”
Lee thought he had misheard. He looked at Myra, who looked equally stunned.
“Engagement? Does this mean that you’re engaged?”
“We are.” Nick squeezed his arm around Elena’s shoulders. “We thought there was no point in waiting. We’re going to have a party, and then we’re off to the Dominican Republic to get married.”
“The Dominican?”
“We loved the little bit we were there, so we’re going back. Obviously, not at the same resort after what they did. But the country is gorgeous.” Nick chuckled. “I can see why Daisy wanted to go there.”
Lee couldn’t believe what he was hearing. This was insane. Nick had cheated on Daisy, and now he was marrying his mistress?
He couldn’t go along with that.
“No.”
“What?” Nick frowned. “What are you saying no to?”
“I’m saying no, I’m not making you a cake. After what you’ve done, you dare to come into my bakery to ask me for that? You have to be deluded.”
“You’re a baker, and Elena wants a cake.”
“Is it going to get eaten at the occasion, or is it going to get forgotten when you get caught fucking someone else?” Lee sneered.
Nick’s face went red. Elena gasped.
“How dare you? Is this how you talk to customers?”
“It’s how I talk to my friend’s ex and his side piece when they ruined her wedding day.”
“Did you just call me a side piece?”
“Well, that’s what you are,” Myra said as she leaned a hip on the counter. “You went behind his girlfriend’s back for two years, humiliated her, and you think you deserve to be treated like regular human beings?”
Elena looked like Myra had just slapped her. Her eyes narrowed.
“What we do is none of your business, so stay out of it, you little bitch.”
Myra arched an eyebrow.
“And it’s my brother’s right not to serve customers if he doesn’t want. Given what you two did, I think he’s perfectly within his rights not to serve you.”
Nick huffed.
“What happened to the customer is always right?”
“What part of what you’ve done has been right? Consider yourself lucky you didn’t get arrested for damaging Lee’s apartment door. Speaking of apartments, have you managed to find a new place to stay? I hear your landlord has given you notice.”
“How do you…?”
“I’m guessing you don’t have much to move, seeing as you’ve not got anything of value to use.”
Nick looked like he was about to lose his temper. Elena snarled and started towards Myra.
“You little…”
